Joseph Padavano Obituary

Joseph A. Padavano, 77, of Shrewsbury, a dedicated, husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away peacefully Friday, July 29th 2011 with his family by his side, from complications of heart surgery.

Joe was born in Worcester, February 27, 1934, one of twelve children of Giuseppe and Maria (Fulginiti) Padavano. He graduated from Worcester Boys Trade High School and married his best friend who has been his devoted wife for the past 55 years, Carolyn (Troio) Padavano. Together, they moved to Shrewsbury to raise their children and have resided there for the past 47 years.

Besides his wife, Joe is survived by his four children, Joseph J. Padavano and his wife Vanessa of Shrewsbury, Dr. John J. Padavano and his wife Judy of Scarborough Maine, Mary Lynn Jankowski and her husband Kenneth of Shrewsbury, Carol Ann Koehler and her husband Thomas of Simsbury, CT. "Papa" cherished his eight grandchildren: Nicholas, Christina, Alexa, and Gianna Padavano, Jaclyn and Jessica Jankowski, and Anthony and Alyssa Ascare. Also survived by a brother, Anthony Padavano and a sister, Rose Fusaro both of Worcester; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Two brothers, Frank and Patsy Padavano, and seven sisters, Hortense Cariglia, Columbia Comforti, Antoinette Jarmolowicz, Domenica "Minnie" Padavano, Catherine Riggieri, Mary Mancini and Angie Azzarone predeceased him.

As founder and President of PADCO, Inc., an architectural woodworking firm, Joe vigorously worked from its start in 1974 up until his recent illness. Joe was an avid golfer and a longtime member of Pleasant Valley Country Club. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at The Donut Café on Shrewsbury Street. He looked forward to spending time at his second home in Saco, ME, where he hunted in the fall and went to the beach in the summer. Most of all, Joe was a devoted family man. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He lived for them and was a vivid presence in all aspects of their lives. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on forever.

Friends and relatives are invited to visit with the family Sunday, July 31st 2011 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. His funeral will be held Monday, August 1st from the funeral home with a Mass at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church, 24 Mulberry St. Burial will be in Mt View Cemetery, Shrewsbury. To the entire Padavano family, sorry I cannot be there in your time of sorrow. Joe was a great guy and I feel very fortunate to have known him for 40 years. Me and him always shared a laugh when I visited the shop,on the golf course, and for that matter anywhere I ran into him. He will be missed by all and especially by me.

When I think back to my childhood, one of my fondest memories is when we spent time in Old Orchard with all of you. The days at Pine Point Beach and Fun Town. The nights at Old Orchard Beach on the strip getting fried dough. I don't think life could get any better than that as a kid. As a little girl, I remember Joe as a gentle giant. He always had time to answer a question and be genuinely interested in what was important to me. I will never forget those days and the special times we had. Thinking of all of you during this difficult time.

To Joe, John, Mrs Padavano, and the girls:

Mr. Padavano was so vitally instrumental in my development as a fine varsity athlete, developing my offensive and defensive skills in baseball, throwing heat, hitting major league fungos to us when we were 11 and 12.

And just a great guy and his laugh was contagious.

My thougthts and heartfelt prayers are with you all. I truly feel your pain, but also know that Mr. Padavano is at peace.

Sincerely,

Paul Savageau

Uncle Joe was the most welcoming soul. I adored him. I loved everything about him...his smile, his turn of phrase, and particularly, my husband and I enjoyed talking politics with him. Oh the fights he is having in Heaven this very minute. God bless all of you. And may He give you his strength. Marti Mahoney- Wilson

To the Padavano family, Saying we are sorry just doesn't seam to be enough. Joe was a mountain of a man. The best thing about him was you always knew where you stood with him. He was a straight shooter. When you think of him you should all be proud to say he was your father, or grandfather. He was a great example to follow. We are so glad to have known him. God bless you at your time of sorrow.
Sincerely, Albert (Sonny) & Alta (Minervino) Aceto
