Julie O'Neill Obituary
Worcester - Sister Julie Patricia O'Neill, 86, of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, died Monday, July 30, 2018 at the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center.
Sister was born in Peabody, daughter of the late James and Hannah (Mahoney) O'Neill.
After graduating from St. John's High School in Peabody, she received a bachelor's degree in History from Emmanuel College. She went on to earn a nursing degree from Essex Nursing School and her Master's in Counseling from Salem State College.
Sister entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in 1950.
Sister was a teacher in several Notre Dame schools in the Greater Boston area for 18 years. She also taught the fifth grade at St. John's School in Worcester from 1959 through 1964.
In 1975, sister shifted her ministry to nursing. She served as a nurse for 23 years, retiring in 1998. Most of her nursing ministry was in Worcester at Notre Dame du Lac.
Her beloved sister Theresa A. O'Neill predeceased her. Sister leaves her sisters in religion, the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur.
Calling hours are Friday, August 3, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Notre Dame du Lac Chapel, 555 Plantation St., Worcester. There will be a prayer service at 2 p.m. followed by a Mass at 3 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Salem.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of Notre Dame, 30 Jeffrey's Neck Road, Ipswich, MA 01938.
The Athy Memorial Home, 111 Lancaster St., Worcester, is directing arrangements.
