June Friedgen Obituary

June P. Friedgen, 66, of Worcester, passed on the evening of Saturday, September 10, 2011, peacefully, in her home surrounded by her loving husband and family.

Born in Worcester, MA on May 8, 1945, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Dorothy Rushton of Rochdale. June attended St. Peter's High School (Class of '63). She went on to earn a BA in Social Work from Anna Maria College ('67) and a MA in Psychology from Assumption College ('72). June worked as a social worker for the Division of Child Guardianship, MSPCC, and went on to serve as an independent Court Investigator for the central Massachusetts court system. She specialized in Child Services.

June was a sincere and loving friend to everyone she met. Her genuine interest in each individual provided a comfort that opened up people's hearts. Many recall the image of June when she entered a room; she was vibrant and her loving energy was tangible to everyone. She respected all, and judged none. June loved the beach, traveling, the arts, and gardening; but, her greatest joy was the time she spent with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren, who adoringly called her "B."

June is survived by her devoted husband of 20 years, Dale Friedgen; her son and daughter-in-law, Joshua and Regina Garvey of Upton; her daughter and son-in-law, Julie and Kyle Sclafani of New Orleans, LA; her daughter, Lindsay Garvey of Somerville; father of her children, Michael Garvey of Worcester; and her grandchildren, Ava Garvey and Salvador Sclafani. She was predeceased by her first grandson, Aidan Garvey. She is also survived by her siblings, Frederick Rushton of Tatnuck; Joyce Hedlund of Tatnuck; mother Anne Rushton of Bethlehem, CT; Lynn Rushton of Worcester; and, many nieces and nephews.

Calling Hours will be held on Friday, September 16, from 4pm-7pm at Mercadante Funeral Home, 370 Plantation St, Worcester. The funeral will be held on Saturday, September 17, at 10am at St. Luke's Church, 70 West Main St, Westborough. She will be buried next to her grandson, Aidan, in Lakeview Cemetery in Upton. Dear Dale and family,

Ann Goldstein shared with me this very sad news of June's passing. I have fond memories of our many talks over a cup of herbal tea or soup, when I was still living at Quabbin Estates and facing life changes. She believed in me and my creativity as a writer and that I deserved to find someone to complete my life. My son, Mike also has fond memories of conversations with both June and Dale. June was genuine, loving, kind, insightful, beautiful, instinctive and special. Please accept our deep and heartfelt sympathies.
