June A. (Martin) Lemire, 79
WHITINSVILLE - June A. (Martin) Lemire, 79, of Whitinsville, died on Wednesday, June 19, 2013, after a long illness.
She leaves six children: Daniel M. Lemire and his wife, Nancy (Benoit) Lemire, of Uxbridge; Karen J. Lemire of Sutton; Richard A. Lemire and his wife, Deborah (Denman) Lemire, of Durham, NC; John C. Lemire and his wife, Heather (Catarius) Lemire, of Douglas; Paula A. (Lemire) Sulmasy and her husband, Christian, of North Grafton; and Patricia M. (Lemire) Quinn and her husband, Patrick, of Rutland; ten grandchildren: Grace and Daniel Lemire, Jr., of Uxbridge; Rick Weiland of Sutton and Caroline Weiland of Westborough; Dylan Lemire of Durham, NC; Joseph Lemire of Whitinsville; Lisa and Julia Sulmasy of North Grafton; and Jamie and Meredith Quinn of Rutland; and many nephews and nieces. in addition to her parents, Harold H. and Mary L. (Plante) Martin, she was also predeceased by two sisters: Dorothy E. Fowler of Fitchburg and Gloria J. Cummings of Leominster.
Born in Gardner on April 27, 1934, she was raised there and later lived in Worcester before moving to Whitinsville in 1960. She was a 1952 graduate of Gardner High School.
Mrs. Lemire was a quality control tester at Fenwal Controls, Ashland, where she worked for 14 years before retiring in 1999. Prior to that, she was a kitchen worker for 20 years at St. Camillus Hospital and at the Balmer School, both in Witinsville. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Parish, Northbridge, where she volunteered as a part-time office worker on Sunday mornings.
When her children were young, she volunteered for 20 years as a den mother for Cub Scout Pack 120, Whitinsville, and for 15 years as an assistant troop leader for Girl Scout Troop 380, Whitinsville. After her retirement, she volunteered at the Northbridge Senior Center to drive seniors to their medical appointments. She was given an award from the Council On Aging for outstanding volunteer service.
She enjoyed reading, travel, crossword puzzles, cooking, and spending many happy days at Breezy Point Picnic Grounds in Douglas. Most importantly, she was a fulltime mother for her children and a devoted grandmother.
Mrs. Lemire chose to denote her body to the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Her Funeral Mass Will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 29, in St. Peter's Catholic Church, 39 Church Ave., Northbridge. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made either to the New England Paralysed Veterans of America, 1600 Providence Highway, Suite 143, Walpole, MA 02081 (www.nepva.org), or to the Friends of Northbridge Elders, c/o the Northbridge Senior Center, 20 Highland St., Whitinsville, MA 01588.
Mrs. Lemire's family would like to take this opportunity to thank all physicians, nurses, and medical and office staff who assisted in her care over the course of her life, especially at UMass Memorial Health Center's Hem/Onc Clinic and at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation- Westborough. Turgeon Funeral Home, 80 School St., Northbridge, has been honored to be given charge of the arrangements.
