Beverly A. (Barnes) Ebbeling, of Whitinsville, passed away on March 16, 2026, after a period of declining health. She was born in Charlton on January 13, 1940, the daughter of Merton G. and Annie E. (Metcalf) Barnes. She is survived by her three daughters and their husbands: Cara (James) Zabilansky of Oxford, Christine (Dennis) Epplett of Uxbridge, and Patricia (Patrick) Lawrence of Dudley; seven grandchildren Abigail Epplett; Angela (Zacharia) Schell; and Edward, Gabrielle, Thomas, Avry, and Taya Lawrence; her brother, Edwin Barnes of Charlton; her sister in law, Ahleen Ebbeling of Whitinsville; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of 61 years, Henry E. "Hank" Ebbeling; her son, Gerald Ebbeling; and a brother, Richard Barnes.
Bev grew up in Charlton on a poultry farm, where she developed a lasting love of animals and appreciation for nature. She graduated from Charlton High School and Becker Junior College. After college, she moved to Boston and worked as a medical secretary at the Joslin Clinic. Following her engagement to Hank, she returned to the Charlton area and became secretary to the Director of the Worcester Rehabilitation Center. Though she later held several part time positions, Bev dedicated herself first and foremost to being a loving wife and mother.
A member of Pleasant Street Christian Reformed Church in Whitinsville for more than 60 years, Bev formed many cherished friendships, volunteered extensively, and faithfully attended the ladies' Bible study. While her children attended Whitinsville Christian School, she devoted countless hours to volunteering and was known for her organization, thoroughness, and leadership.
Bev deeply loved her family and considered her four children and seven grandchildren tremendous blessings from God. She enjoyed being outdoors, and she and Hank often took day trips throughout New England. They also traveled to several national parks in the West and enjoyed warm-weather vacations in Florida. Bev found joy in tending her flowers in spring and summer, watching birds throughout the year, and collecting bird carvings. She especially liked going for walks, with favorite destinations including Buffumville Dam, the Cape Cod Canal, Jamestown, and Colt State Park. She also enjoyed reading and was a lifelong learner.
Her family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Overlook in Charlton for the wonderful and compassionate care provided during the last nine months and Faith & Family Hospice for the reliable care and therapy provided during the last three months.
Although Bev will be greatly missed, her family finds comfort in knowing she is now with her heavenly Father in a place of glory and peace, where we will one day be reunited.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Street Christian Reformed Church, 25 Cross Street, Whitinsville, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Whitinsville Retirement Society, Inc., 10 Chestnut Street,
Whitinsville, MA 01588, in memory of Beverly Ebbeling. Bev was a member of the Board and served as President of the Whitinsville Retirement Society. More recently, she lived at the Retirement Home where she was very happy for a year before her health declined.
