Karen McNamee Obituary

Karen (Meagher) McNamee, 53, passed away unexpectedly on October 2, 2010, while visiting family in Worcester, MA. Karen was born in Worcester. She graduated from West Boylston High School, Connecticut College, and received her Master's in Public Administration from Florida International University.

Karen was a nationally-recognized equestrian. She was the proprietor of Race Lane Farm on Cape Cod in the 1980's and mentored and taught many riders who are still active in equestrian events and of whom she was very proud. Karen married Owen McNamee in 1989 and they resided in Plantation, FL for the past 21 years. Karen was the owner of Courtwear Tennis Shop in Plantation and worked for many years at Certified Vacations in Ft. Lauderdale.

She is predeceased by her father Richard P. Meagher. She is survived by her loving husband, Owen McNamee of Plantation, FL; her mother, Jane P. Meagher of Worcester; her brother Kevin Meagher and his wife Christine Lucey-Meagher of Worcester; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins in Worcester and Oakham. She also leaves many friends who are considered family in South Florida and her three dogs: Furby, Sparkey, and Abigail.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, October 7, from 5-7 p.m. at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester. The funeral will be held from Nordgren Memorial Chapel on Friday, October 8, with a 10:00 a.m. funeral Mass in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Broward County, 2070 Griffin Road, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312.
