Lorraine Burrows Obituary

Lorraine R. (Knight) Burrows, 85, of South Lancaster died Mon., May 25, 2009 in Notre Dame Hospice Center, Worcester. She was the wife of the late Alfred Sydney Burrows, who died in 2004.

A resident of S. Lancaster since 1960, Mrs. Burrows possessed a passion for nursing and was employed as an Oncology Nurse for 14 years at the UMASS Memorial Healthcare – Memorial Campus, Worcester until her retirement in 1989. Previously, she had worked at Shattuck Hospital, Boston.

She was born March 14, 1924 in Southampton East, Bermuda, the daughter of the late Albert Edward and Mary Elizabeth Roberts Knight. She was a graduate of The Lemuel Shattuck Hospital of Practical Nursing in Boston, Class of 1965.

Mrs. Burrows was a longtime member of The Village Church of Seventh Day Adventists in South Lancaster. She enjoyed knitting and music. She also loved time spent with family, sharing stories, and traveling to Bermuda.

She is survived by one sister, Georgia Aileen Carter of Southampton West, Bermuda and many loving nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Quinton A. Knight and Calvin H. Knight.

Burial will be at a later date in Bermuda.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, June 14, 2009 at 1 PM in The Village Church of Seventh Day Adventists, 75 Sawyer Street, South Lancaster, MA 01561.

Memorial donations may be made to the Notre Dame Hospice Center, 559 Plantation St., Worcester, MA 01605. Arrangements are under the direction of the Buma Funeral Homes, Uxbridge.

Dear Laurie and Karen,
Our deepest sympathy to both of you and your family as you mourn the loss of your dear Aunt Lorraine.
It was such a joy and privelege for us to care for her at Notre Dame Hospice.
She touched all our lives in a very special way.
