Lynn Coleman Obituary

Lynn Tripp Coleman, 54, of Weston, Mass., passed away on May 11, 2010, after a long and valiant battle with cancer. Lynn was a warm, graceful and generous person, who adored her loving parents, Robert and Angela Tripp of Dartmouth and her sister Carol Tripp Tebo of Worcester. Lynn leaves an extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins, including the Burke family of Dartmouth and her adored God daughters, Madeline Emma McGuire, 11, of Hopkinton and Riley Rose Serpa, 3 of Winchester. Lynn was blessed with many dear friends, especially Valerie McGuire of Hopkinton and the late Sister Therese Higgins.

Born in Newburyport, MA, Lynn spent her early years in New Bedford and Dartmouth and later moved to Weston in 1977. Lynn graduated from Dartmouth High School in 1973, Regis College in 1977 with a degree in social work. She earned a Master's Degree in higher education administration from Suffolk University in 1988.

For over three decades, Lynn served within the Student Affairs Office of Regis College in Weston, Mass., most recently as Vice President, Student Affairs. This year, Regis College instituted the Lynn Tripp Coleman Grace and Dignity Award, an annual award in recognition of Lynn's [leadership, quiet dedication and grace]. Lynn continued to work in the capacity as Vice President until the time of her passing.

Her passions included: reading, vacationing in Florida, the Caribbean and Harwichport, MA. Most importantly Lynn loved the birth of spring flowers, the warmth of the sun on her skin, the summer sounds of the ocean and the Harwichport hydrangeas. She thrived on spending time with family including her extended family within the Regis College Community.

The family extends there grateful thanks to Dr. Merha Golshan, Dr. Eric Winer and all of the caring staff of Dana 9 and 10 for their provision of exceptional care, humanity and treatment and for what Lynn referred to as the "bonus" year for which she was happily grateful.

She was pre-deceased in life by her paternal grandparents, Mr. Kenneth M. Tripp of Fall River and Mrs. Elizabeth (Tripp) Parkinson of Fall River and Somerset; her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen A. Gardella of Fall River, and her beloved God mother, Mrs. Gertrude (Gardella) Oliveira of Swansea.

Her Funeral will be held on Monday, May 17, 2010 at 9 a.m. from the Waring-Sullivan Home of Memorial Tribute at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Julie Billiart Church, 494 Slocum Rd., Dartmouth. It has been more than 10 years since Lynn´s passing, and almost 20 since I´ve seen her in person. I think of Lynn every single day. A picture of her sits in my office as a reminder to "take the high road" and "be my best self." She continues to be one of the best women I´ve known. I´m so lucky to have spent 4 years with her at Regis. I miss her and work to make her proud.

Lynn was my student in the MEd Program at Suffolk University. She stood out over the years as one of the most committed, generous and gracious student affairs professionals I've ever had the pleasure of working with. Her impact on everyone who studied with her was overwhelmingly positive and we were very grateful to have had her as a student.

I am so sorry to learn of Lynn's passing. Her devotion to Regis College and its students knew no bounds. The Regis community will surely be at a loss without her wisdom and compassion. My sincere condolences to Lynn's family and the entire Regis community.

I love you Lynn,

We were best friends for so many years going back to 1978.

We lost contact, re-connected and lost contact again! And, we had our ups and downs. A measure of friendship, I guess.

Notwithstanding, every time we made contact it was as if no time had passed at all.

I shall always love you! Pray for us and this world as you go to God! That is your new mission without question. You have a much more important job now that you have left us, but you remain with us in a very special way!

I shall cherish your friendship forever!!

For me Lynn was someone that I could always count on. She was a role model, mentor and friend. I learned so much from her. She was a quiet leader, who cared for each and every student at Regis. She was someone that I could always go to for advice. Her wisdom was endless and she always knew the right thing to say. I didn’t get to have formal good bye with Lynn to tell her how much she meant to me and so many others at Regis. I hope that she knew. Her smile, kind words, and inspirational example is something that will be with me forever. Lynn, thank you for your service to Regis, to the many students who walked our campus, and to the lasting legacy that you have left behind. I was privileged to know you , will miss you dearly and will never forget your kindness. Rest in peace.

All my love,
Caitlin Erwin ’11
