Madeline Larking Obituary

Madeline T. (Olsson) Larkin, age 85, wife for 60 years of Robert Larkin, of Peabody, formerly of Salem, died Tuesday evening in the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers.

Born in Salem, the daughter of the late John J. and Mary (Harrington) Olsson, she received her education in Salem Schools and then was employed by the B & M Railroad in their Boston office until marrying her husband in 1947.

During their marriage, they moved for her husband's career and had resided in eight different states. As these moves occurred, Mrs. Larkin became active in the local community and was a hospital volunteer wherever she lived. For many years she was a volunteer for the Southborough Library and had served as president of the Friends of the Southborough Library. She was a former associate member of the Worcester Country Club.

She and her husband had enjoyed travel which included many vacations in European Countries.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Larkin is survived by three sons: Attorney Robert G. Larkin and his wife Kim of Winchester, Attorney Edward T. Larkin and his wife Mary of Boxford and Timothy J. Larkin and his wife Patricia of Candia, New Hampshire; seven grandchildren: Shannon, Christa, Jessica, Bridget, Marissa, Kyra, and Matthew; two sisters: Ruth Armstrong and Dorothea Welch, both of Salem and many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:15 A.M. from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., Salem, to be followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in the Immaculate Conception Church, 15 Hawthorne Blvd., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Friday from 4 to 8 P.M. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Salem. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Kaplan Family Hospice c/o Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St. Danvers, MA 01923.
