Marguerite (Gibbons) Fitzgerald, 95

Clinton - Marguerite (Gibbons) Fitzgerald, 95, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at UMass Medical Center on Saturday, November 25, 2017. She is predeceased by her beloved husband of 56 years, John E. Fitzgerald, and their daughter Mary (Fitzgerald) Gardner. She is survived by two sons and their wives, William H. Fitzgerald & Rosemary of Sterling; John K. Fitzgerald & Jane of Clinton; son-in-law Eric Gardner of Mendon; 7 grandchildren, Ryan, Colleen, Thomas, William, Brian, Arden, and Leah Fitzgerald; great-grandchildren, Abigail and Teagan, sister-in-law Marion Flynn of Worcester; nieces, nephews, and many dear friends, notably her caretakers Monica, Ruth, Rachael, and Tisha. She is preceded in death by her siblings, John N. Gibbons and Mary E. Brodrick.

Marguerite was born in Clinton to the late Thomas & Margaret (Navin) Gibbons. She attended local schools and graduated from the Clinton High School, Class of 1940. Marguerite was employed as a bookkeeper for Weber & Rose and later for Conti the Florist before working in the cafeteria in the Clinton Public School System until retirement. She was a woman of great faith and devout member of St. John the Guardian of Our Lady Parish. She was a former Girl Scout Leader and held membership with the Ladies AOH. Marguerite was talented in knitting, sewing, crafting and ceramics. She enjoyed trips to Florida and summers at the beach on Cape Cod. Marguerite will be remembered lovingly as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. The Fitzgerald family wish to thank the staff at Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center as well as the SICU staff at UMass Medical Center-Memorial Campus for the care provided to Marguerite and their family throughout her illness. Calling hours will be held from 9:30 until 11AM on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 in the Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:30AM in St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St., Clinton. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Lancaster.
