Maria Comitas Obituary
WORCESTER - Maria E. (Niforos) Comitas, 74, of Worcester died Friday, April 11th suddenly at home. She leaves her husband of 49 years, Evangelos Comitas; a son, Loucas Comitas and his wife, Ekaterini of Worcester; a daughter, Efstathia "Esther" Comitas of Worcester; a brother, Andreas Niforos and his wife, Georgia of Worcester; a sister, Argiro Glykis of Greece; four grandsons, Theodoros and Evangelos Manolatos and Evangelos and Christos Comitas and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother in law, Georgios Glykis.
Maria was born in Greece the daughter of Dimitrios and Evangelia (Papazoi) Niforos. She worked for Astra Pharmaceutical for 28 years in the packaging department, retiring in 2005. Maria was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral and its Ladies Philoptochos Society and the Worcester JCC where she enjoyed swimming daily. Mrs. Comitas passion was flowers and cooking. Her grandsons were her pride and joy.
Her funeral is Tuesday, April 15th from O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a service at 10:00 AM in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday, April 14th from 5:00 until 7:00 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral Family Fund, 102 Russell Street, Worcester, MA 01609.

Those Maria swam with at the JCC still remember her kind and warm spirit, and were just reminiscing about her the other day. Maria left a lasting impact on those she met. What a wonderful legacy to leave. We are all better for having had her as a friend and treasure her memory.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time. Your Mom was a very nice lady and I have fond memories of working with her all those years ago. She took me under her wing when I first started at AstraZeneca and I will never forget her for that. May she rest in peace. You & your family have my deepest heartfelt sympathy.

Maria's wonderful demeanor and kind spirit will be missed by those she swam with at the JCC. We remembered her today in prayer, and more than a few tears were shed. Rest in peace dear friend.
