Mary Elisabeth (Kenney) Lucey, 74

Worcester/Paxton - Mary Elisabeth (Kenney) Lucey, 74, a resident of the Willows of Worcester and formerly of Paxton, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday, April 6, 2018 at Vibra Hospital in Leicester. Born in Worcester on the fourth of July, 1943, she was the daughter of Charles and Bertha (Peterson) Kenney.

Mary graduated from South High School in Worcester with the class of 1961. She went on to graduate from Memorial School of Nursing in 1964 and began a life-long career in the fields of nursing and public health. Mary worked for the City of Worcester as a public health nurse and as a nurse in the Wachusett School system. She served as chairman of the Wachusett Regional School Nurses Union as well. After retiring, Mary continued to work administering eye and ear exams in public schools until only a short while ago. She truly enjoyed the time she spent volunteering at the Mercy Center in Worcester, Clarke School for the Deaf and advocating for those with developmental needs in the Worcester area. Her true passion in life was her family and spending time with her beloved grandchildren.

Mary is survived by the love of her life and husband of 49 years, John E. Lucey of Worcester; her son, Dr. Timothy Lucey and his wife, Kristina of Amelia Island, FL; her daughters, Pamela Lucey, Esq. of Paxton and Elizabeth Lucey and her partner, Joy Spurlin of Auburn; her grandchildren, Caitlyn and Joseph Lucey and Josephine and Amelia Herlong; and many cherished nieces and nephews. Mary was predeceased by her sisters, Christine L. Maloney and Nancy Murphy.

Dear John, Betsy and I were both saddened to hear of Mary's passing. Hopefully the good times that the two of you shared will be of some consolation to you. As time passes, good times in Ireland and Scandinavia will remain a pleasant memory for all of us. Richard O'Connor

Dear Beth,
We are so sorry for your loss. Your mom was a truly wonderful woman and I was thrilled when she brought you to Mercy Centre and stayed on to volunteer. Though I have not seen you or her in many years you were always in our hearts. Thinking of you all at this very sad time.
Love and prayers,

I'll never forget Mrs.Lucey- she was my school nurse at Jefferson and I vividly remember seeing her Lucy (Peanuts) poster on her office door whenever I passed by. She was wonderful, RIP.
