Michael A. Porter, 61
Brookfield - Michael passed in the warmth and comfort of family and friends at home after a heroic struggle with lung cancer. He leaves his mom Gladys, brothers Clement and James, nephews Jamie and Jason, many friends, old and new and special friend "Pumpkin".
Born August 10, 1951 in Worcester, son of Clement "Mike" Porter and Gladys Porter and raised in our beautiful little town of Brookfield. In his early years Michael lived by the sea working for, and friends with "Evil Knievel" on his yacht, "Evil One" and country singer Jimmy Dean on his yacht "Big John". Michael was a 35 year member and past president of Laborer Local 243, he also created and owned with his brother Clement Quinebaug Co. Tavern & Restaurant in Sturbridge.
He loved reading and collecting mystery novels and was an avid golfer and fisherman. One of his greatest joys was golfing with his dad, his brother Jim and friend Paul. His fish tales were legendary and his ole fish pole was always near by.
Michaels funny little dances, story telling, meek, kind, generous spirit will be so missed.
So its goodbye son, little brother you were told from the day you were born, to the day you left us, how much you were cherished and loved, your now in another loving place with Dad, friends, Chipmunk and Chet and the peace and warm comfort truly earned. We will never forget Michael, you'll always be in our hearts and souls until the day we can hold you in our arms once again and give you a Big Hug, another place, another time.
A special Thanks to Dana-Farber in Boston, Holy Trinity Hospice in Worcester, therapist councilor Emily and nurse Linda Murphy, her devotion, kindness and pain management solutions were a God send, Linda we are forever grateful.
A Memorial Mass will be held August 10, 2013 in St. Anne's Shrine in Sturbridge. There are no calling hours. Varnum Funeral Home, Inc., 43 East Main St., West Brookfield is assisting the family with arrangements.
