Philip Philbin Obituary

Philip E. Philbin, Jr., 53

Clinton - Philip Edward Philbin Jr., 53, passed away Tuesday, July 18th at Portsmouth, New Hampshire Regional Hospital with his family by his side. Philip was predeceased by his father, Philip Edward Philbin Sr., and mother Mary Paterson (O'Malley) Philbin. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Hadar (Ben Aroya) Philbin, and his two sons, Eben and Aidan. He also leaves behind his siblings, Maureen Philbin and Kerrie Philbin of Middletown, Rhode Island, and Timothy Philbin of Boston, Massachusetts, several nieces and nephews in Rhode Island, Israel, Australia and England, and many dear friends.

Philip was born in Clinton Massachusetts, and graduated from Clinton High School, Class of 1981. He graduated from George Washington University in 1985, where he studied political science and philosophy. During his time at George Washington University, he studied abroad at the American University in Paris where he developed a love of travel. Upon his graduation, he spent three years traveling the world, where he was fortunate to meet the love of his life, Hadar. He then spent six years living in Israel, learning his wife's language and culture. Philip began his career with The Seven Hills Foundation in 1993, and fought tirelessly to support individuals with disabilities. In 2006 he was promoted to Assistant Vice President of Seven Hills Clinical Associates and in 2012 he was tapped to run Employment programs at the new Seven Hills ASPiRE! affiliate. Phil had genuine and close connections to all of the individuals he worked to support. He loved to grow vegetables with the children in the summer and tap maple trees in the spring.

Besides his family, Philip had a great love for Moody Beach, Maine, where he excelled at getting wicked tan. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and children to Israel where they visited family and explored the country. His love of gardening was unmatched – he picked vegetables and made sauces with his wide range of ingredients. There were few people in his neighborhood that didn't benefit from his squash and tomato growing abilities. He also enjoyed bike riding and hiking with his family, notably in the Clamshell Pond and Forty Caves areas. Funeral services are to be held on Monday, July 24, 2017 from the Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10AM in St. Joseph the Good Provider Church, 52 West St., Berlin, with burial to follow in St. John's Cemetery, Lancaster. Calling hours will be held in the funeral home on Sunday, July 23, 2017 from 4 until 7PM. Memorial contributions may be made to the Eben and Aidan Philbin Education Fund, c/o Hometown Bank, 131 Main St., South Lancaster, MA 01561. Online condolences may be placed at

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Phil you were a great mentor and always believed in everyone's abilities. You helped so many people see past their disability in their life. I remember one time when you were making maple syrup at seven hills and it almost boiled over due to I forgot to keep an eye on it. Your love for life and making everyone smile and happy will never be forgotten. Rip Phil. You will be missed.

My deepest condolences go out to Phil's family. To lose a husband and a father, who was dedicated to everything he did and I am sure everyone he loved.

My son and I are deeply saddened by Phil's loss.

It came as a shock, when I happened to be reading another article in Friday's paper last night. Happened to glance up and see the story on Phil.

My heart sank, tears started steaming down my face, I just couldn't believe he was gone. Now I had to tell my son that the man he loved so very much was gone.

I have known Phil for a long time. I had just realized even longer than my son, Michael was a resident in Seven Hills Broadway House in Haverhill, MA.

Phil was a kind soul who had a huge heart especially for developmentally disabled children/adults. He had the pleasure of seeing my son grow up from a teenager to an adult.

My son loved when Phil came by the Broadway House. I was always a little sad that I had missed seeing him.

I loved Phil's laugh. He had quite the sense of humor. I will miss joking around with him and talking about Michael's past placements.

Phil was the reason I chose Aspire. I thought because Michael and Phil had known each other for so long that Aspire would be a good fit.

Phil was firm, but fair. Michael always accepted what Phil told him. That didn't mean that Michael wouldn't constantly remind him of this and that.

Phil will be greatly missed! Rest In Peace, my friend!

I only met Phil a few times, but I was so impressed with the great work ethic and attitude he brought to the Aspire Program at Seven Hills Foundation. I was devastated to hear that he is no longer with us, but Phil has had such a positive impact on individuals with disabilities and members of the Best Buddies Program at UMass Medical School. His legacy will surely live on. Wejust miss him so much. Praying for your family during this difficult time. May God give you strength.

To all of Phil's family I am so sorry for your tremendous loss. I worked with Phil at Seven Hills and had the honor of being his roommate on an agency trip to Germany in 2011. And it truly was an honor. Learned so much about his amazing travels and what a great husband, father, friend and human being he was. As well as advocate for the people we supported and worked with thru Seven Hills. His sense of humor and smile were infectious, and he had some of the funniest stories I've ever heard. Phil is one of those people that we hope to be lucky enough to cross paths and meet to share experiences in this life. Just a special person. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.

thank you for everything you have done for myself and the individuals we serve. I will always remember you as our fearless leader. Thank you for being my mentor and having faith in me to move on to bigger things. Your smile lit up the room. You ALWAYS saw the good in people... I remember venting one day and I said something on the lines of what were you thinking hiring this person and you said "you know, I knew how they were when I hired them but everyone deserves a chance." Thank you , Phil for your faith and guidance.

My condolences to your family who was your WHOLE WORLD in this time of grief. May Hadar, Eben and Aidan know how much you loved them and always talked about them . You raised some good boys, Phil <3
