Reginald Gobi Obituary
Shike graduated from David Prouty High School and left during his senior year to join the Navy during WWII. Shike served in the Seabees and was stationed in the South Pacific where he built air bases, supply depots and other installations at advanced bases. Shike also earned his pilots license in the Navy and flew numerous sight seeing tours from Spencer Airport. When the war was over Shike continued his schooling in automotive mechanics and opened East Side Service Station with Henry "Beano" Lapierre. Shike then founded Gobi's Service Station which he owned and operated for more than 30 years. Shike was well known for his generosity, always helping those in need. He was devoted to his family, friends and business and could fix anything. Shike enjoyed time on the golf course with his family and friends and was a Club Champion at Leicester Hill Country Club. Shike was a communicant of Mary, Queen of the Rosary Parish a member of Gaudette-Kirk American Legion Post; he had been a member of the Knights of Columbus and past Corporator at Spencer Savings Bank. The family is grateful for all the support and assistance during a difficult time. A special thank you to Paulette, Barbara and Pat and all at hospice who aided us in keeping our dad comfortably at home.
A Memorial Mass will be held Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 10:00 AM in Our Lady of the Rosary Church, 7 Church Street, Spencer. Please go directly to church. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Mary, Queen of the Rosary Cemetery, Spencer. There are no calling hours. J. HENRI MORIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 23 Maple Terr., Spencer is directing arrangements. In lieu of flowers we suggest that donations be made to UMass Memorial Homehealth and Hospice, 650 Lincoln Street, Worcester, MA 01605 or Mary, Queen of the Rosary Memorial Fund, 60 Maple Street, Spencer, MA 01562.

Losing a father, husband and friend is never easy. Please accept my condolences, thoughts and prayers at this time of great loss for you and your family. While I did not personally know Shike, I do know two of his wonderful children. If they are any reflection on the man, I know that Shike must have been a wonderful man. Anne and Brian, sorry for your loss. I am sure that you, and the lives you lead are a true tribute and honor to the wonderful man that brought you up.

In my three score years and ten, I honestly don't believe I ever met a nicer or a better man than Mr. Gobi. At his service station,it didn't matter whether you owned Flexcon or the bank, or whether you taught school or were down on your luck and needed help with an old car that was more trouble to him than it was worth to try to fix it, he treated everyone with equal respect and dignity and always with a great smile no matter the weather or the time of day. If you were lucky he'd regale you with wonderful stories of the navy,of flying, and of traveling the country he loved so well in his Lincoln which he also loved.An honest, kind, patriotic,true gentleman devoted to his wife and family, it must be a real blessing to have had him as a father and grandfather. Sincere condolences to his family and to those many folks in the Spencer area who have lost a great guy, one of the genuine members of the "greatest generation."

Brian and the entire Gobi family, as I read his life's story, I believe you all should be blessed to have had him as a husband and Dad. I met him on a few occasions while delivering parts to Brian's shop from a distributor in Worcester and he always had a smile and kind words to share. He was a top knotch guy, for sure.
