Richard Noel Obituary

Richard D. Noel, 84

Boylston - Richard D. Noel, 84, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 28, 2016, at the Beaumont Nursing Center in Northborough. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Joan G. (Palmer) Noel; 3 sons, Richard Noel and his wife Cynthia of Berlin, Stephen Noel of Boylston, and Christopher Noel and his wife Sharon of Sarasota, FL; his one and only daughter, Kim Noel Young and her husband Roger Young, Jr., of Boylston; 8 grandchildren, Jeffrey, Jason, and Sarah; Kayla (pre-deceased), Brady, and Autumn; and Cameron and Brandon; as well as 3 great-grandchildren, Ava, Rowen, and Bryce. He was also pre-deceased by brother, Raymond Noel and sister, Lorraine Paciello.

Richard was born in Worcester, son of Ida B. (Sweet) and Joseph S. Noel. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Richard lived a very full life in Boylston raising his family. He was a heavy equipment operator and master mason by trade and loved to practice his skills around his home and the homes of his children helping them with projects. The garden Richard planted each year was a work of art. He was a great lover of sports and spent a lot of time before he became ill watching his grandson play basketball. Rye Beach New Hampshire was a place where Richard's heart soared, spending time with his wife and beloved dogs on the beach. Richard loved to fish and be outdoors. He traveled by motor home on many occasions to North Carolina and Florida to be with his son Christopher and his family. Richard was a man who would help anyone out, and he kept himself very busy helping out the people of Boylston. Richard will be greatly missed by his devoted wife who was by his side everyday as he battled Alzheimer's. What we will miss most is his beautiful smile and sense of humor.

Funeral services and Celebration of Richard's Life will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, his 85th Birthday. A calling hour will be held from 10-11 am followed by the funeral at 11am. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Boylston. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Boylston Fire Dept. Ambulance Fund, PO Box 634, Boylston MA 01505 or the Sterling Animal Shelter, 17 Laurelwood Road, Sterling, MA 01564. Joan, Edie and I are presently in South Carolina and cannot offer our Condolences personally. He was quite the man and had a tough fight. How well I remember his days back on March Street in Worcester with his folks along with Ray and Lorraine. His teen years were partially absorbed, along with Ray, in Boy Scout Troop 16. He was always on top of his game. He left great memories for Family and friends.

As a best friend of his son, Chris, Mr. Noel (Dickie as I called him) was my second father growing up. He was the best. He was at every game, every function, always supporting Chris and the rest of the team/crew. After I moved away, got married and visited his family with my new bride, he welcomed her into the family with open arms, as if he knew her for years. He was so darn generous, and every time I saw him after our high school years, he insisted on giving me a $20 bill - every single time! His kindness and generosity was and is unmatched by anyone I've ever met. My thoughts and prayers go out to Joan (my second mother), Chris, Ricky, Steve, and Kimmy. He was one of a kind. They don't make 'em like Dick Noel any more. That's for sure.

One fond memory: Mr. Noel took me and Dicky Deux fishing out of Rye on the Isle of Shoals. Soon after arriving, the boat motor died and we drifting in the hot sun for hours while Mr. Noel frantically tried to make a repair. When he had the motor half disassembled, I started praying and looking for the coast guard! Somehow, he had all the tools (and parts) on board to essentially rebuild the motor. As we chugged our way back into Rye harbor I was thankful we had such a resourceful captain with true Yankee ingenuity!
