I met Rich Paul near the end of his life. I prospered greatly from his critical thinking and remarkable generosity and his enthusiastic support for my meager enterprises. I am lucky that circumstances led our paths to cross and I am deeply sorry for the wife he evidently loved so much.

Without a doubt, Mr. Paul was the best teacher I ever had. I took him for every class he taught. Too many classic memories to mention. He was truly a treasure for SPM and all the students fortunate to take his classes. I am very saddened by this news, even months after his passing. Godspeed Mr. Paul, and thank you.

Mr. Paul was one of those individuals that once you have met you never ever forget. As a teacher if you have seen that look on his face you knew he meant business and you never want to see that face again. He was stern, but understanding. Rest in peace Mr.Paul you will be missed. Class of 1980!

My deepest regards to the Paul family. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Paul when the family all came out to California for a visit. Jenni is my very dear friend. He struck me as a man with very strong morals and a kind, loving heart. It was a pleasure having dinner that night. His memory will live on through all the lives he has touched. My prayers are with you!

I came upon this page with sadness in my heart as I remembered a teacher who instilled in me the gift of critical thought. After reading 39 pages of memories, I leave inspired by the thought of what one dedicated person can do for others. Mr. Paul was one of the rare people who so clearly lived the life he was meant to live.

I've been blessed to have some outstanding teachers over the years in high school, college, and major seminary where the teachers were international Scripture scholars. But none were as gifted as Rich Paul when it came to the craft of teaching. He was man in love with his work, and it showed to the benefit of St.Peter-Marian students every day for 39 years. If anyone ever deserved an award named after them in the years to come at my alma mater, it is this man. May the Lord in His goodness grant eternal rest to His gifted teacher.

Richard is my first cousin and we had a lot of eating good times together, especially at the family yearly Hanukah parties. When we first set eyes on each other, the first thing we would do was to give each other a big hug. We would then fill our plates (numerous times) with great food, sit around the table and just chat about anything. I will miss Richard and wish his family my heartfelt sincerest sympathy.

Linda and the whole Paul family. So saddened by the news. On the Worc. Academy tennis and basketball teams and as a caring neighbor, he was a great role model to me. From afar I learned that he became an educator. Not a surprise to me because even as a teenager he was a genuine teacher. My wife Ellen and I send our condolescences. I'm very saddened to learn of Mr.Paul's passing and I wish to convey my sorrow to his family. He was one of my teachers at SPM for two years in a row. The limits of memory take so much from each of us ...and yet I still remember the love of life and enthusiasm that he shared each day with us in his classroom. Mr. Paul was an amazing teacher and an even greater human being. His class was one of the most difficult classes that I took in high school but it forced me to become a better student. I am now in college studying history and I hope to one day go to law school and I owe that to Mr. Paul. Without his enthusiasm for teaching, I never would have gained a passion for law and government. I will remember him as a man who loved his family and loved what he did. He could have done anything in the world but he received no greater joy than teaching his students how to be more successful people. My prayers are with his family during this time and I hope they are comforted by the fond memories they have of him.

I have never met Mr. Paul, but from reading the entries in the guest book he truly is a remarkable man. I have had the pleasure of working with his son Dan over the past few years and can see first hand on a daily basis what everyone is talking about. If he passed on what he instilled in his son to all of the students he has taught over the years, this world is definitely a better place because of him. The Paul family will be will be in our prayers.

Dr. Paul was a creative, dedicated teacher who inspired the best from his students. There wasn't a better feeling than doing well on your exam and being able to shake his hand in front of the class. I still remember his tall, stately presence in the front of class yelling "DAs, DAs" or sending an unruly student to "Siberia". But mostly I remember a man who was fair, caring, genius and got the best out of everyone. Dr. Paul is a legacy for SPM and will live on in the hearts of scores of students. My condolences to the Paul family. SPM Class of 99

Rich's family is in our prayers. He has helped set so many students on a meaningful path by giving them a dose of what they need. What RHP did every day is exhausting, so the fact that he was inexhaustable in his work was inspiring. Analytical writing was a tool in Mr. Paul's craft: turning young minds toward reason, reflection, and an understanding that everything for us begins in the mind. Who would ever forget being his student? I had him for 4 years and I am almost certain he never missed a single day. How about his vocabulary-emphatic, but always so decent! He could have been teaching in [any] university, but he knew the importance of teaching the "Bleacher division" or "peanut gallery," and getting his own and their "molecules" aligned. He gave us "recipes" and "DA's" and even the least academically oriented kid learned to use his "spine"--not just for posture--under Rich's watch. His friends know what he was made of and how much he loved his family, and his life gives us all a lesson in such matters. I am so grateful for RHP, and I pray that his family will find comfort-that is what he most wants. His students in life will please him by taking care of the republic, values, and teaching someone something that he taught you.

Saddened to hear of the passing of a St. Peter-Marian legend. Mr. Paul epitomized all that SPM taught me, respect, honor, humility, and a ceaseless dedication to never stop learning. Individuals like Mr. Paul are few and far between, we were blessed to have him in our lives in the most formative of years.

I do not know Richard, and I do not know his family. However, I do know an individual whom I love and trust, and this individual has tremendous respect for Richard, and he holds Richard in very high regard. This individual is taking time off work today, traveling a good distance to attend the funeral, and visiting with the family. I know what it is like to lose a dear life-long friend, but I certainly do not know what it is like to lose such a wonderful man as Richard Paul. My thoughts and prayers are with Richard, his family and friends, and especially the individual I know who will miss him dearly.

My deepest sympathy to the Paul family. I had Mr. Paul for Analytical Writing my first year of high school at SPM. He was one of the most challenging teachers that I have ever had. He taught me to believe in myself and the power of positive thinking. He even selected a piece of work that I had written and had it published in a journal. I am a teacher today and only hope that I am making the same kind of impact on my own students. My biggest regret was not visiting him up on the hill. So many times I drove by SPM and wanted to say hello to him and my other teachers. I always said "oh I will get around to it one of these days"....now my chance is gone. Rest in Peace Mr. Paul you were loved by so many.

Mr. Paul was a great teacher but even better person. He was one of my hardest teachers but also one of my favorites. Not only did he teach his students about history but he taught them life lessons and how to be a respectable person in today’s society. Mr. Paul earned from me a singular respect. I think I ended up taking all of his of his classes at SPM - World History, Analytical Writing, Criminal Law and Business Law. He taught rigor and engagement. He, far beyond any other, made an effort to reach me when I was not-so-easy-to reach. I'll never forget him for that. At an age when a young man has a much easier time finding fault and seeing flaws, Mr. Paul showed me an example of integrity - a teacher and an adult who walked his talk. One can do much, and Mr. Paul surely did.

Twenty years after I graduated from SPM, I brought my daughter to an open house. While walking through the corridors, Mr. Paul welcomed me by my name. I asked him how he could possibly remember my name, and even recognize me after all those years. He just smiled his uniquely big smile, shrugged his shoulders and asked me if I remembered and recognized him. After I answered "yes", he asked me, rhetorically, "Then why wouldn't I remember you". This to me typifies Richard Paul. He constantly made his students think of the world in unique and wonderful ways, and expected nothing more from us than he expected from himself. He was everything that a teacher is supposed to be, and truly a great and wonderful man. We will miss the man, but will always carry his spirit.

Mr. Paul was one of those people who wanted to better our generation by not only educating us on the history of our world, but also on the moral character needed to succeed in our world. He was a brilliant man, more brilliant than any degree can describe, but aside from that, he was also a kind man and one whose love for his family and community could never be doubted. I am thankful that I was able to have Mr.Paul as a teacher because even though his class was hard, he showed us that hard work and dedication can pay off. Mr. Paul was St. Peter-Marian and will forever be in our thoughts and hearts.

When I brought my daughter to SPM for an open house, some twenty years after I had graduated, Mr. Paul approached me and called me by name. When I asked him how he could possibly remember me, let alone recognize me after 20 years, he smiled his big smile and shrugged his shoulders. "I always remember my students" he said. This man was what a teacher is supposed to be. Mr. Paul conveyed discipline, dedication, compassion and self-respect as the avenues to earning respect. The most important text-book he authored had nothing to do with critical thinking, reading or writing - it had to do with how to carry yourself, something he did with esteem and grace. My thoughts and prayers will be with his family.

I was blessed with the opportunity to have Mr. Paul for United States history during my sophomore year of high school. He was so passionate about this country and firm in his beliefs. He challenged me to fight for what I believe in and to achieve "higher level thinking". He inspired me everyday and all of what he has taught me will stick with me forever. He showed us all that there is such a thing as a "self made man". I offer my condolences to the Paul family and I would like to say that Mr. Paul will be remembered forever. Rest in Peace,

Mr. Paul,

You were truly the greatest teacher I have ever known. You taught us many things but most importantly moral character and to stand our ground for what we believe in no matter what the opposition is. The true answer to any question is not the obvious one, but lies in the questions that the answer presents, inferences. After all these years there's hardly a day that goes by that I don't reflect on your lessons for guidance. We may have lost a hero, but heaven gained one formidable ally. Godspeed and rest peace Mr. Paul, you left your mark on this world in all of us & we'll all meet again some day.

Mr. Paul not sister someone, a changing day! I had Mr. Paul for his first day of teaching at Saint Peters , he was nervous, young and very kind. I can still see him walking in that door, funny tie, tan pants and wool suitcoat. He is the only teacher I can remember who took the time to help me, who saw something in me. Mr Paul changed my life he gave me confidence to speak up and raise my hand, and to realize I had something to offer, he made me want to walk in that door everyday. We both struggled that year but we both learned it wasn't as hard as we thought. For if I help the world to grow

Then I feel that I have won

I was so lucky to have Mr.Paul as a history teacher my sophomore year at SPM. His class was always so much fun and we all walked into the class everyday wondering what would make us laugh that day. He was such a good person with a big heart. Every time I eat a piece of bacon I think about his class. He will be missed very much

My prayers and thoughts go out to the Paul family. I had the pleasure of having Mr. Paul as a teacher more than once. I can still hear him talking about PETA and saying to "get off the sauce". He was a great teacher and person. He will be missed.

To the Paul family, my thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathy. This Guest Book is a lovely tribute to a wonderful man. 30 years later I can close my eyes and remember sitting in his class learning about inferences, critical attributes and Mesopotamia like it was yesterday. His was the class we all looked forward to no matter how difficult and challenging. How amazing to have influenced so many lives. Rest in peace Mr. Paul and thank you.

Mr. Paul was one of the best teachers I ever had.

To say he will be missed is an understatement, words cannot express how much SPM will be forever affected by the loss of RHP.

During our Senior ceremonies, I remember everyone in our class pulling for Mr. Paul to speak at Baccaluareate Mass. We all hoped he would be able to do the honor and finish his career with a send-off to us. Mr. Gravel, also retiring with us, got the honor instead, but I will never forget waiting downstairs at St. Paul's Cathedral, and the entire class giving Mr. Paul a standing ovation for being able to attend. Mr. Gravel during his speech at Mass, even made mention of his presence, and everyone in attendance again gave a standing ovation. The week after, he spoke to the school for Senior Farewell, and again he got a standing ovation from all that had had him teach a class of theirs or worked side-by-side with him, or both! Those claps spoke volumes about his character and values.

My thoughts are with the Paul Family! Cancer? Why do you insist on taking the best of the best??!!
Mr. Paul was an amazing teacher! Will never forget "PUNT" he had a natural instinct when relating to his students. He had that crooked smile just as he realized he had lost the class, students tired and zoned out... then the football "PUNT" and everything was OK again! He was one of the BEST!!!!!

Mr. Paul was my teacher at SPM in the early 80's. I always looked forward to attending his class and learning how to analyze situations. Now almost 30 years later, I contribute my career success to his teachings and mentorings. I still have the hand written recommendation letter he gave me upon graduating from SPM in 1984. I will be forever grateful for knowing him and him being a part of my life and shaping me as a person. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
