Richard Walker Obituary

Richard J. Walker, II, 65, of Northborough, died Saturday, June 6, 2009 in Marlborough Hospital following an illness.

Rick is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Maureen A. (McQuillan) Walker; his children, Kyle M. Walker and his wife, Kelly of Northborough, Kate E. Walker of Portland, OR. and Cary M. Walker of Northborough; two grandchildren, Sophia and Kyle Walker of Northborough; a special cousin, Patricia Laurin of Easthampton; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. Born in West Carthage, NY and raised in Easthampton, he was the son of the late Richard J. and Lucey (Boivin) Walker. He was predeceased by his brother Sean.

Rick was graduated from Monson Academy in 1962. He earned his BBA degree cum laude from UMass at Amherst in 1971 and his MBA in 1994. Rick worked for New England Telephone Co. for 30 years before retiring in 1994. Following retirement, Rick went on to work with his father in the family Insurance Agency in Westfield. Rick was a member of the Saturday morning Men's Club at Chet's Diner. An avid runner, he ran the Boston Marathon in 1981, finishing just under 4 hours. Rick coached many years for Northborough Youth soccer, football and baseball. He was a member of St. Bernadette Parish where he was a lector.

A funeral Mass will be held Friday, June 12, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Bernadette's Church, 266 Main Street (Rte.20) Northborough. Burial will follow in Howard Street Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Thursday, June 11, 2009 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street (Rte. 20) Northborough. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to: St. Bernadette School, 266 Main Street, Northborough, MA 01532 or Jericho, 537 Northampton Street, PO Box 1039, Holyoke, MA 01041-1039.
