Robert Cranston Obituary

Robert "Bobby" H. Cranston, 62, of 32 Cavour Circle, died unexpectedly on Saturday, January 13, 2007, in his home.

He leaves his wife of 41 years and childhood sweetheart, Marilyn A. (Rudis) Cranston; his son, Jeffrey R. Cranston and his wife Cathy of West Boylston; his daughter, Mindy A. Esteves and her husband Barry of West Boylston; two sisters, Barbara C. Edilberti of West Boylston and Sally R. Trottier of Laconia, New Hampshire; four grandchildren, Halley A. and Justin R. Cranston and Melanie A. and Adam J. Esteves; nephews, nieces and cousins. A grandson, Thomas C. Cranston, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, the son of Walter C. and Ruth H. (Bolton) Cranston and lived 39 years in West Boylston.

Bobby graduated in 1963 from North High School in Worcester. He began his career as an auto mechanic in 1964 when he went to work for his father and grandfather at Walter C. Cranston and Son, Inc., a family gas station auto repair shop in West Boylston. In 1975, Bobby along with his wife Marilyn, built a new building in West Boylston designed to house there growing auto repair and towing business. This year will work their 60th year in business.

He was a great supporter of youth sports in West Boylston and was a former Parks and Recreation Commissioner. He was a member of the Harold N. Keith American Legion Post in West Boylston and the Marine Corps League in Worcester. Bobby enjoyed boating, fishing and vacationing at Ft. Myers Beach in Florida, but his greatest love of all was spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Bobby was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran of the Vietnam War Era.

The funeral for Bobby will be held on Thursday, January 18, from the Miles-Sterling Funeral Home, 100 Worcester Road, Sterling with a Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Richard of Chichester Church, 4 Bridge Street, Sterling. Burial will follow in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, West Boylston. Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home. At the family's request, and Bobby's appreciation of Veterans who have valiantly served our Country, memorial donations may be made to the Shelter for Homeless Veterans, 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605. MARILYN AND FAMILY, TODAY IS FRIDAY
JAN. 19TH AND I HAVE JUST LEARNED OF YOUR TRAGIC AND UNEXPECTED LOSS. I'M SO SORRY AND IN SHOCK. IT SEEMS SO UNFAIR THAT A MAN OF HIS STATURE, AS A FAMILY MAN, COMMUNITY MEMBER AND AMERICAN WOULD BE TAKEN FROM HIS FAMILY AND PEOPLE WHO LOVED AND ADMIRED HIM. WEST BOYLSTON HAS LOST NOT ONLY A RESIDENT BUT A ROLE MODEL TO WHICH WE COULD ALL LEARN SOMETHING FROM.GOD BLESS YOU ALL I WILL SEE YOU SOON.
