Rosa Goodney Obituary

Rosa V. (Nigro) Goodney 72

Lebanon N.H. - Worcester- Rosa Nigro Goodney, age 72, passed into eternal peace on Monday, July 27, 2020 while at the Genesis Healthcare Community in Lebanon, NH after a brief illness. Rosa was born in Worcester, MA on May 7, 1948, the fifth child of six to Philip M. Nigro Sr. and Gilda DeSantis. After graduating from Venerini Academy, Rosa attended Anna Maria College in Paxton, MA where she earned a bachelor's degree of Arts and Sciences. There she met and married her former spouse Paul F. Goodney on July 24, 1971 and moved to CT where they raised their family. Left to honor Rosa are her three devoted children and their spouses Lauren and Matthew Griswold of Hebron, CT, Dr. Philip and Amy Goodney of Etna, NH, and Christopher Goodney of Brooklyn, NY. Rosa's pride and joy were her four grandchildren Samantha Griswold, Eric Goodney, Ella Goodney, and Adam Goodney.

Her family, faith, art and music have been at her core. She played guitar, piano, and loved to paint and draw. She played the pipe organ at any church opportunity and was a regular in the choir. Rosa was known to break into song even when there was no music to back her up. She taught art classes at the local colleges, became a florist to be around the fresh flowers she loved and finally a court reporter for the State of CT. She loved the beach and would spend as much time as she could in the sand. Rosa is survived by her siblings, Maria Parker, Patti Zoli, Victoria Formato, Philip Nigro, Jr., and Henri Nigro, 20 nieces and nephews, their spouses, and 21 great nieces and nephews. She always had a smile and was laughing. She will be remembered as a sweet lady with a pure heart, deep faith, ready to feed the world with her renowned manicotti, loving nature and her creative imagination.

Out of concern for everyone's safety during these trying times of the State Covid Regulations there will be a private ceremony with only her children. Once it is safe, a celebration of life will be scheduled. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rosa's name to the American Diabetes Foundation 260 Cochituate Rd. #200 Framingham, Ma. 01701. Lauren, Philip, Christopher and the extended Nigro family, truly sorry about your Mom's passing. Your Dad and I went to High School together and I was in their wedding party. Your Mom was a sweet, caring and kind person who always welcomed us wherever they lived. We lost touch but I remember your Mom was also very artistic. My biggest memory is her smile and her love for her family. Glad to hear she got to spend time with her Grandchildren. Truly sorry for your loss and will keep you in our prayers. In sympathy Steve Morris

My sympathies to Rosa’s family..it has been many years since we sat at the bridge tables in Anna Maria when we probably should have been in class. Rosa was quiet but so smart and a wonderful sense of humor
So very sorry for your loss and the pain that it brings

Dear Rosa, Such a sweet sister. So many fun memories. When I was 12 and Rosa was 11 I wanted to buy a go cart frame I saw advertised in the telegram. It cost $10. I didn't have the money but Rosa offered to buy it. She did at that and I mounted our lawn mower motor on it and we drove it up and down Johnson street. Crashed a few times but what fun. She was my youngest son's Matt godmother. I have enclosed a very nice picture of her and uncle Richard. We will see you bye and bye. Find some cannoli's up there for us.. Love, Philip

Rosa - I remember - I remember our lives together in Worcester when I attended Holy Cross - I remember my beautiful cousins Maria, Patti,Vicky, Philip and Henry - you, lovely, sweet, talented Rosa. Every Sunday was spent at 49 Adams Street - eating - listening to the girls play concertos - eating - laughing - and eating. Aunt Gilda's never ending meals just kept coming. Oh, and who can ever forget "work" in the spring shop - Rosa, you always laughed at my lack of dexterity and speed in bending the small springs - so I was put on the mops - it was really Uncle Phil's charitable contribution to my education.
I just know that your sisters, brothers, children and grandchildren were fortunate to have such a kind, caring soul as you in their lives - I know that I will forever treasure the moments we had at 49 Adams Street - With love and admiration and prayers for your family - Cousin Edward and Lee

Dear Nigro family. I was shocked to see Rosa has passed and it brought so many memories back of our days at Venerini. I can hear her laughing with all the fun times we had. She was a sweet gentle soul and may she Rest In Peace with her God. Condolences to her children as well. Your mom and I were best friends but as life goes on we didn’t keep in touch. I hope you have happy memories to sustain you. She holds a special place in mine. God bless you all.
