Rudolph Aubuchont Obituary

Rudolph E. "Buzz" Aubuchont, Jr., 64, of Leicester St., died Thursday, February 5th in the Rose Monahan Hospice Home, Worcester, surrounded by his loving family.

He leaves his wife of 42 years, Cheryl J. (Saint Denis) Aubuchont; his two children, Kirk E. Aubuchont and his wife Candice of Auburn, and Kirsten E. DuHamel and her husband Steven of Auburn; his two brothers including Mark P. Aubuchont and his wife Phyllis of Flagstaff, AZ,; his three sisters, Donna Lee Knightly and her husband Merton of Leicester, Marcia M. Davis of Leominster, and Susan J. Cloutier and her husband Ronald of Auburn; his five grandsons Zachary, Matthew, Nathan, Connor and Christopher; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Heather Aubuchont Visbeek in 1994.

He was born in Worcester, son of the late Rudolph E. Aubuchont, Sr. and Ethel M. (Whiting) Aubuchont and has lived in Auburn for most of his life. He graduated from Auburn High School, Class of 1962.

He enlisted in the US Air Force right after high school. His first assignment was Patrick Air Base where he worked communication support at Cape Canaveral Space Center. He was involved in radar tracking in Antigua during early space shots. He performed communication support at Iwo Jima, Seoul Korea, Philipines, Japan and at Misawa Air Base (17 miles from Russia) for the installation of radar and tracking stations. He was sent to the Viet Nam War in 1964 where he continued to install communication antennas 300 feet in the air while being shot at by enemy troops. While deep in the jungle at Pleku Air Base he installed listening posts to monitor enemy movements and provide the network to protect our troops exhibiting the bravery that carried him through his life.

Buzz worked as a trouble shooter for the telephone company for thirty-six years. He retired from Verizon in 2001 due to an illness related to Agent Orange.

He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Auburn, enjoyed the outdoors, playing golf and boating, and was a creative woodworker.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, Feb. 8th from 4-7 PM in Britton-Wallace Funeral Home, 91 Central St., Auburn. His funeral will be held on Monday with a service at 10 AM in Bethel Lutheran Church, 90 Bryn Mawr Avenue, Auburn. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Auburn.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be sent to the Peter Levine Cancer Center Hematology, Oncology Department, UMass Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 2795, Worcester, MA 01615 or Auburn District Nursing Association, 191 Pakachoag Street, Auburn, MA 01501.

The family would like to extend thanks to Dr. Richard Horner for the care he received. Dr. Horner's compassion and medical abilities enabled our family to enjoy Buzz and a quality of life that he would not have had. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Horner's nurse Nancy Auclair and the entire staff who gave freely of their love and care. We would also like to extend thanks to Mary Peterson of the Auburn District Nursing Association who has been the shoulder to lean on throughout his illness.
