Stephen Pulaski Obituary

Stephen Pulaski

Alexandria, VA - On Thursday, December 10, 2015, of Alexandria, VA

Stephen Pulaski was born May 15, 1940 in Worcester, MA to Stephen John Pulaski and Josephine R. (Los) Pulaski. Husband to life-long friend Valerie A. Karolkiewicz, also of Worcester. He is survived by his daughter Lisa Valeria Pulaski, son Stephen John (Michelle) Pulaski, III, and two grandchildren, Grayson John Pulaski and Peyton Brooke Pulaski, who reside in Virginia.

He was a graduate of Classical High School and Worcester Junior College in Worcester, MA, George Washington University in Washington, D.C. and received his Master's degree from Antioch College and attended Layola University extension course in Mexico.

His career began by proudly serving as one of the original Peace Corp volunteers and honorably continued service to his country as a Foreign Service Officer for the U.S. Department of State for 34 years. During which time he found fulfillment in representing the United States Government overseas in its social and civic development efforts. While serving abroad he found time to grow his family and provide them with the experiences of living and traveling around the world. His family warmly followed him as they resided in Guatemala, El Salvador, Nepal, Italy and Panama as well as visiting countless other countries. After a long and rewarding career, he retired and settled in Alexandria, VA with ambitions to travel and provide for his family.

He was a gentle, generous and devoted family man always eager to help a friend or family in need. Stephen Pulaski, was and will, continue to be a role model for all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held at Jefferson Funeral Chapel, 5755 Castlewellan Dr., Alexandria, VA on January 9 at 11 a.m.

To Lisa and Stephen-

Condolences in the loss of your dad and and mother Valerie. My family was close friends of your grandparents in Worcester and the
Karolkiewicz family. I remember as a young girl your mother who was a strong and independent women, and the time she met and courted your dad.

Because Steve and I were in the same Peace Corps group, we trained together in Puerto Rico (Rio Piedras and San Juan) before starting our work in the Dominican Republic. After the Peace Corps I only saw Steve a couple of times at PC reunions but always considered him part of my circle of friends. May your family be comforted by knowing how many people's lives he touched over the course of his distinguished international career.

Steve and I worked together in the early years of Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic and then later on with USAID. Steve was not just a colleague but a good friend. He was a kind and generous person, loath to offend, anxious to please. He loved his family dearly. Lisa, Stephen, do not say your Dad is dead he is just away!He has wandered into an unknown land and left us dreaming how very fair it must be since he lingers there. So think of him faring on as dear in the love of There as the love of Here. Think of him still as the same and say, he is not dead, he is just away

We are sorry to learn of the passing of Stephen, but grateful for her service to our nation with the Peace Corps in the Dominican Republic.

Our Condolences,
The National Peace Corps Association

Steve was a fellow co-worker when he served as desk office for Madagascar during my tenure at post. He was a kind and loving person. May he rest in Peace with his beloved who passed on earlier.
