Stephen Thomas Obituary

Stephen P. Thomas, 87, of 101 Chadwick St. died Saturday Feb. 27th in Umass/Memorial Hospital Belmont St.

He leaves his wife of 52 years, Leonora (Sklute) Thomas, 2 brothers, Michael Thomas of Worcester, and Christy Thomas of Taunton, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers James, Anthony, Peter, and Alexander, and Sister Helen Nauchy.

It was apparent from an early age that Stephen had a deep interest in art. Prizes were won through his youth and it was natural that he entered and graduated from Massachusetts College of Art. His schooling was interrupted by the Second World War where he served in Belgium, France and Germany. He entered the working world in an advertising office where he was made Art Director and during that time received the National Paper Box Association Award and was the keynote speaker at that meeting. He traveled to Europe at any opportunity and always came back with several paintings. He taught in public and parochial schools after receiving his masters degree. His work rewarded him with two one man shows in Worcester and Providence. He was a long time member of the Worcester Art Museum and the Sodality of Holy Cross College.

The family wishes to thank the staff at UMass Memorial Hospital – Belmont Campus. Special thanks to Emergency Room staff – Dr. Briandes, Dr. Anders, Dr. Rosenfeld and Nurses Ed and Gail for their compassion and kindness during a very difficult time. Also, the CCU staff, especially Dr. Georges and the nurses for their compassion and kindness. An additional thanks to the caring staff at The Odd Fellow Home.

A funeral will be held Friday March 5 from CASWELL-KING FUNERAL HOME, 474 Grove St. with a 10 am. Mass in Immaculate Conception Church 353 Grove St.

Burial will be in Worcester Co. Memorial Park. Calling hours in the funeral home. Will be from 5-7 pm. Thursday March 4. Donations can be made to the Worcester Food Bank if desired.
