Thomas. G. Smith, Sr.

PRINCETON - Thomas G. Smith, Sr., 98, passed away on Friday, March 28, 2014. He was born in Alderson, West Virginia, the son of Richard E. and Catherine (Kessler) Smith.

He leaves his loving wife of 72 years, Norma L. (Lamoureux) Smith; a daughter, Pamela L. Druhen and her husband, Claude of Northfield, Vermont; a granddaughter, Chandar Hall of Burlington, Vermont; and several nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his son, Thomas G. Smith II, a brother, Richard Smith and a sister, Virginia McClung.

Thomas graduated from Holden High School and attended Worcester Junior College. He was a lab machinist at Worcester Polytechnic Institute for several years, retiring in 1981. Previously, he was a die setter, designer and tool & die maker at Wyman Gordon in Worcester and Grafton and at Heald Machine. He was a Deputy Chief and member of the Princeton Fire Department for 43 years, a Boy Scout leader for 45 years and a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Princeton.

A memorial service for Thomas will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 4, in the First Congregational Church of Princeton, 14 Mountain Road, Princeton, MA 01541. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Princeton Congregational Church or the Princeton Fire Department, P.O. Box 37, Princeton, MA 01541. A shining star has gone out. Mr. Smith will always be remembered and cherished. Im so honored to have known him, having him as a neighbor. He was one of the strongest, kindest, and hard working people I've ever met. He touched the lives of everyone he met.
