Hard to believe it has been nearly a year. I am sure we would have written lots of letters about the year it had been and shared some conversations about your thoughts on everything that happened. Sure do miss my friend and the wisdom he brought to so many of us..

Dear family of Tig Richardson,
I was telling a student the other day about Tig and how much he meant to me. She found the announcement of his passing and sent it along. When I saw the photo, the memories came flooding back. I can't stop sobbing.
Tig woke up one morning in the mid-1960s to find that he'd received a calling to integrate the congregation of an all-white church four towns away from his. I was 15 or 16 years old and a member of that congregation. Tig became a friend to our youth group. I shared a hymnal with him in the tenor section of the choir. The story is so much longer. A movie could be made of the positive effect of his presence in our midst.
You were blessed to have this angel on earth in your family for 90 years. I was blessed to have him in my life every Sunday for a year or two. It's a blessing that grows and grows with each passing decade.
Fondest wishes,
Charlie Poole

I can still clearly hear my mother (Gloria) saying years ago "You should contact your Uncle Tignell; he knows a lot about the family history." I am so glad that I took her advice! In the years since, we shared many moments, stories, and new discoveries about our family. And I recall that even with the small discoveries, you were always so excited, encouraging and appreciative!
The last time you and I spoke together, it seemed rather different from other times. I remember you saying "I am so sorry that we never had the chance to meet in person...." I was in California and you in Massachusetts, but I was unwilling to accept that the opportunity to meet in person wasn't still before us. That was to be that last time that you and I spoke together.
Until tonight, I was unaware of this website. Reading through all the wonderful comments, from people who knew you well, shows how you have touched many lives!
Thank you!

Oh Tig, you were one of the best ones there were. You gave me my nickname the Lobster Lady after giving me my first bite, and I was hooked for life. You made me feel normal for sucking my thumb way longer than most. When we reconnected decades letter, it was like no time had passed, and we had the same favorite poet. I’m so glad we were able to talk in the last few years so we could catch up and I could hear about all of the amazing things you’ve done. You have always made me feel like I mattered when I needed it most, and for that I am forever grateful. You have a special place in my heart forever and ever. Rest well, dear friend.

I am late to finding out of Tig’s passing, but would like to know that he made an impact near and far. I knew Tig because of his relationship with the Doe family and I considered him to be a role model. As an educator, I believe that my compassion and my rapport with my students comes from many sources— and I would count this amazing man as one of those sources of inspiration.

Mr. Tig was always such a joy to talk to and just to even see in the hall. His smile lit up my day and he always inspired patience and loving kindness towards all of the children he would read to in Head Start. In the seven years I have known him, his dedication to come to read for the children (even in snow I did not like to drive in) amazed me. My second year at Head Start I worked at a different building than the one where Mr. Tig was reading. When I saw him again on my third year, I received the biggest hug from him. After that, we always shared one. He really loved and appreciated people and was not afraid to show it. I did not have a clue as to all the other good he had done and was involved with outside of Head Start beyond his family (who he mentioned fondly). It does not surprise me in the least though. I hope that I can be remembered the same way as he is one day and eagerly await the day I can give him another hug.

Over the years I have contemplated, the level of love, respect, and total regard Tig receives from those of us with whom he shared his wisdom. That is such a rare achievement, a blessed example to all.

We in the Purdy family have considered Tig a part of our extended family for decades. He was a close friend to my brother, David Purdy and my sister-in-law, Gina Colorio whose family also considered him one of their own. When I saw him at a recent family birthday get together, I had no idea that his passing was near. The void in our hearts is great. The world is a better place for having known Brother Tig.

So saddened to hear of Tig's passing. My sincere condolences to his wife and family. I had the honor and pleasure of both working with and for Tig at Digital. He was my first S/W CAD Engineering manager and my "Biggest Supporter" ... my entire life even when I reached VP and later CEO. Tig taught me that the best thing you can do for someone (employee, child, spouse, or friend) is "Believe in them." I am sorry that I will miss his funeral services, as I now live in Florida. Rest in peace, my dear friend. And know that I and everyone you touched will think of you often.

First, let me offer my deepest condolences to the family.
I met Tig 30 years ago when he and I were working for Digital Equipment Corporation. Tig worked in the CADSE group and was advocating for hiring young black engineers. He took them under his wing and mentored them so that they could be successful in the workplace. However, he was generous enough to mentor others, too. I have no idea how we met, but I remember him taking me under his wing, taking an interest in me, caring about my success, and staying in touch, even after he retired. He came to my 50th birthday party 6 years ago, in the dark, in the snow. I was so happy to see him - it made my evening complete. I regret that Tig showed such disdain for computers after he retired and would not use social media. We fell out of touch. But I will always remember his kindness. I am saddened at his loss.

I first met tig in the early 70s. That was at Digital. We hit it off right away. When we both were made supervisors we helped each other and each other's people so much it was not always clear who worked for which one of us. He was like part of my family for years. Tig and my wife Bev and our three kids had a special bond as well. Sorry to say we kind of lost touch lately. We can only hope we rekindle that in our next life.

Tig, you crossed my mind just the other day, remembering the work we used to do together on HIV/AIDS with Pakachoag Church and APW all those decades ago. You will be remembered by our community as a wise, kind and generous man, with a loving heart, a warm hug, and a twinkle in your eye. Sending deepest condolences to all whose lives you've touched, family, friends, colleagues, children... May you rest in peace Tig.

What can I say.... Tig was first a colleague, then a friend, mentor and like a dad to me. Tig taught me so many valuable life lessons and always knew just what to say. There are people you wish could live forever - or at least longer than you.. people who give so much love and wisdom back to the world and everyone they touch... Tig was one of those people. Decades of memories.. and this one lesson I keep with me always - "Seek contentment, not happiness" thank you Tig, for honoring me with friendship, to the most blessed and loved person I know..
