Virginia Chojnicki Obituary

Virginia Mae Chojnicki 85

Worcester - Virginia Mae (Miller) Chojnicki, 85, a lifelong resident of Worcester passed away peacefully with her devoted daughter by her side, Saturday, September 11, 2021, after a period of declining health.

Virginia was born in Worcester, the daughter of John G. and Blanche (Sinkavich) Miller. Raised in Worcester, she graduated from Providence Street Junior High School and Commerce High School. Later in life she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Clark University. After marrying, she briefly lived in San Jose California before she and her husband moved back to Worcester to live in her Childhood home to take care of her ailing mother Blanche. Over her employed years, Virginia had worked as an oil paint artist for Casson-Foster, a secretary at Canterbury Street School in Worcester, as a state representative aide to William Glodis and as Manager for the Foothills Theatre.

Her husband Benjamin J. Chojnicki passed away May 7, 1999. She is survived by her daughter, and best friend, Mary H. Chojnicki, a Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for Worcester Public Schools with whom she lived; Many nieces, and nephews who treated her like their mother and who she was so proud of and watched grow up next door to her; as well as extended family and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, two sisters, Joyce Stallings and Shirley Rovezzi, and brother-in-law Henry Stallings, predeceased her.

Virginia was a devoted Catholic who grew up attending Our Lady of Vilna Church as well as various Churches in the city of Worcester until she could physically not attend in person. She then enjoyed watching weekly Mass on TV, as well as the Red Sox. She was an accomplished artist, as evidenced by all the oil paintings in her house and those gifted to relatives. She loved animals, always having dogs with her husband and cats with her daughter. Always eagerly involved in her daughter's life, she was a Campfire Girl Leader and volunteered her time helping decorate the stage for Mary's childhood dance recitals. Before her ill health, she loved her trips to Twin Rivers Casino.

Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours, Wednesday, September 15th from 4 pm to 7 pm in the MERCADANTE FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 370 Plantation St. Her funeral will be held Thursday, September 16th from the funeral home with a procession to St Joseph Church on Hamilton Street where her Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 am. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery.

Mary & Family, I send you all my heart felt sympathies. I have so many wonderful memories of Ginny. She welcomed me to Canterbury St. School when I was just a young "rookie" Guidance Counselor many years ago. She mentored me, encouraged me, socialized with me and became a friend. She was a strong women with an enormous heart, who loved to have fun. May she Rest in Peace. Susan (Charpentier) Brady

I'd like to say that Ginny was a force! She was also a joy; and an incredibly accomplished and talented lady.
I had the pleasure of working for her during the last 4 years of Foothills Theater. Mary, she only spoke of
you in glowing terms. She will be sorely missed. God Bless--Rita

I worked with Ginny at Foothills in 1999 and 2000 and have such lovely memories of working with her. I was thinking of her just the other day, actually. She was so welcoming from my first day and knew she was looking out for all of us every day. Mary, she spoke so highly of you so often. Everyone knew you were the light of her world, especially after your dad passed away. I am so grateful to have known Ginny. I hope that you and your family are comforted by your memories of your time together.

Dear Mary.....My heartfelt condolences to you on the passing of your Mom. She was a special person who left indelible footprints in MY life. She and I worked together, as you well know, in the "trenches" at Foothills Theatre. As bumpy as those times could be....the nature of running a professional theatre....we had fun. We laughed...we cried...we yelled and we prayed to "St Blanche" to help us find things, answers and/or get through those long days and nights. We formed a wonderful bond that still resonates in my life. We were "mole people" working underground all those years, with Marc and Susan and Michael, et al, who were also great "teachers", to make sure that the show went on. The last curtain call was called some time ago, but....Those were the days!!!!! I wish you peace....strength....and "knowing" .....she made a difference.
