Ken, So sorry for your loss, Heaven is a more beautiful place because of her!

December 4, 2009

I was saddened to hear of Connie's passing. I hadn't realized that she wasn't well. I first met Connie when I facilitated the Orange Team (we were the best!) at the American Cancer Society National School Health Leadership Institute. How could one help but be taken by her enthusiasm and commitment? I knew Tennessee would go far and under her leadership the state became an exemplar for the nation. She would periodically update me on her progress and was quick to share information when I needed help. Her sunny disposition, eternal optimism, and total selflessness will be much missed. I feel honored to have known her and extend my sympathy to her family. What a blessing her presence has been.

Dear Family and Friends of Connie,

How much it must mean to you to hear from so many across the country, whose lives have been touched, changed and inspired by Connie. I first met her in the National School Health Coordinator Leadership Institute which began in 1999 and am so grateful for the opportunities I've had to work with her over the years. Thank you for sharing Connie with us and thank God for her being such a blessing in my life and that of so many others. You are on our prayer list so rest assured that God is hearing Connie’s name a lot!!

Jeff Cavins said, “It is not a matter of whether we will suffer during our lives, but when. And more specifically, how will we suffer: poorly or well?" You can tell a great deal about people by how they respond to adversity. Those who have amazing grace, like Connie, take the focus off themselves and remain faithful in their earthly affairs affecting lives even in their suffering. Their reward is eternal. Do me a favor and wrap your arms around yourself and then each other and give yourselves a little hug from me for Connie through you!

Amazing grace to you all,

Jeanette Dippo

Mr. Givens and Family,
I am saddened by the loss of Connie. My heart aches for you and your family and for the "family" of Coordinated School Health Coordinators accross the state. As Connie would say, we are "brothers and sisters" in Coordinated School Health working to help each other and the lives of Tennessee children. Connie was our leader and our friend. My life has been changed by her strength and endurance to fight for children's health. God Bless you and give you peace.

Ken and family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you now and in the days ahead of you.
I first met Connie on 9/11. We worked and sat together in a workshop she had developed with Eva Marx as facilitator in the initial phases of CSH. The room was stunned by the day’s events. The world seemed to stop and turn cold. As if by magic Connie’s spirit gently melted the cold realities of that day, filling the room with rays of hope and a driven sense of purpose to carry on. It was extraordinary!
Not only has Connie changed the lives of children in TN. but she touched the lives of every individual who ever had the good fortune to be blessed with her smile (what a smile!) charm, wit, wisdom, and compassion for all.
Connie left an indelible mark in the hearts and minds of many. Her magic warmed every man, woman or child she met leaving them empowered. This magic, this shining light she gifted so many with I have no doubt can only grow stronger and brighter with each passing year.

peace and blessings to you,

Paula M. Postai

Connie will be missed by all who knew her and worked with her. She was always ready to share her expertise and to partner with me when we had an opportunity to reach out to school boards in Tennessee. I extend my sincere condolences to Ken and all her family.

CONNIE was a person who made a huge impact on those she encountered
I was allowed to have the blessed opportunity to meet her during my internship with one of the pilot counties, very exciting time, sitting at her office waiting for the phone call to come in for CSH bill to be approved. She truly cared for the future; THE CHILDREN and their HEALTH. Never forget you and the great memory of singing karaoke and singing your favorite song. Wow, what a great Lady!
May God Comfort, Bless, and Love her Family and friends during this difficult time.

Ken and Family,

I was proud to have had the chance to know and work for and with Connie as the Coordinated School Health program kicked off. It saddens me to hear of her passing. Connie was so "FULL" of life and had an unreal sense of humor. Connie touched my life in so many "GREAT" ways. I will miss you Connie!

I served as Connie's assistant during the statewide expansion of Coordinated School Health. Our relationship rapidly blossomed from one of boss/employee to sincere friends who loved one another. I am so blessed to be able to say that.

It was an absolute honor and pleasure to serve with Connie during those few important years. We made a GREAT team. In her words, "we are making history with this (Coordinated School Health)." I believe that. And, it was fun.

Connie, I will always miss your charm and your unending sense of humor which would surface at the most amazing and unexpected times. I will miss the emails with your loving signature line of "KMA", whose meaning is known to only a handful reading these words. I miss your "monk e-mails".

I am thankful for all you've done, and for the friends I have made with Ken and Kellie. I know they are proud of you. If y'all ever make it to Alaska, I would love to see you and show you around.

See you on the dark side of the moon, Connie. KMA.

Nothin' but love from,

Ken and Family,
I want to say THANK-YOU! Thank-you for supporting and encouraging Connie with her dream of making Tennessee a healthier place. Thank you for sharing her family time so that she could lead her Coordinated School Health Family.
I hope you find comfort in knowing that her passion, her life, her dream will affect our children for generations to come.

Like I mentioned yesterday..... If I know Connie, right now she has God's ear saying " If I can have a few minutes of your time, I want to let you know about a little thing we got going on in Tennessee called Coordinated School Health ......"

THANK-YOU for sharing Connie with us. Our lives are enriched for knowing her

Connie's absence creates a tremendous void that will not be filled nor ignored. It will drive all that knew her to do better and challenge themselves to make the world a better place. I have said before, how lucky was I to have known someone that makes saying goodbye so hard. God help the friends and family with the difficult times.

Kenneth,
Going way back in time to 1972 when Jerry & I lived in Oklahoma and you and Connie lived in Texas. Thats when I first met both of you. Connie was pregnant with Brian. I remember Connie's beautiful smiles and how happy she was about having a baby. I'm glad you and your precious family are a part of our lives. I am so sorry that Connie has passed away, I just heard she had cancer and for that I am so glad that the battle is over for her and no more suffering. I know there are no words to help you but please know you are in my thoughts and heart. Hugs to you and the children. May God Bless you all. Love, Marlene
