Dr. David Allen Dowell

Long Beach, CA

Dr. David Allen Dowell, 65, of Long Beach, CA, passed away on Tuesday October 25, 2016. His death is the result of a suspected heart attack during a cycling ride in the Palos Verdes Mountains. He is survived by his wife Nancy, his brother and sister, Paul and Nancy, and his three daughters: Maria Elena, Laura Ann, and Julia Rose.

David's Celebration of Life will take place at the Earl Burns Japanese Gardens at CSULB on Saturday November 12th at 2:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend and are invited to wear Hawaiian shirts in honor of David.

Please accept my condolences. Please know that the God of comfort feels your pain and sorrow. He actually provides something better to look forward to. Jeremiah 29:11 specifically tells us God wants to give us a peaceful "future and hope." He promises in the near future all the pain and sorrow you are experiencing about your loss will be gone and we will be able to enjoy perfect life with all our loved ones.

When we lose someone, friend or family member, it's not an easy thing to go through. The heart and mind reaches maximum reactions and who can tell how that person affected our life. In writing we may hint how we feel but God knows the depth of our pain. I'm sorry for your loss. I hope you'll find comfort from Psalms 29:11

I always enjoyed my interactions with Dave during my time at The Beach. He was truly an expert in his field and a real bridge builder between Student Affairs and Academic Affairs. At the end of the day, he made us realize that we had the most important thing in common: a mission for student success.

David was such a dedicated colleague serving "the cause" for improving students' lives through education, a fierce competitor on the tennis court, a gentle caring spirit with a sense of humor and a quick smile. My life has been graced by knowing him, his wonderful wife who also dedicates herself to the enhancement of others' lives, and his precious daughters whom he spoke of highly each time we met...a most proud father and genuine man throughout.
