Edward Netherland Obituary

Edward Netherland

Murfreesboro, TN

Edward Hutton Netherland, age 60 of Murfreesboro, died Tuesday, November 18, 2014. He was a native of Murfreesboro and son of the late Joseph H. and Mary Elizabeth Hutton Netherland, Sr.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at North Boulevard Church of Christ. Bro. David Young and Duke Westover will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Family and friends to serve as Pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at Woodfin Memorial Chapel.

He is survived by two sons, Braden and Daniel Netherland, both of Murfreesboro; daughters, India Netherland of Lascassas, Madison Netherland of Nashville; brother, Joe Netherland of The Woodlands, TX; sisters, Sally Wynn and her husband Fred and Carol Curtis, both of Murfreesboro; two grandchildren, Riley Ann and Hutton Joseph Netherland.

Mr. Netherland was a member of North Boulevard Church of Christ. He was a 1972 graduate of Central High School and graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1976, where he served as manager of the football team for four years. Mr. Netherland was a life member of The Million Dollar Round Table. He was a Chartered Life Underwriter and was a member of The Friars Club. He was involved in the life insurance and banking industry since his graduation from the University of Tennessee in 1976. Of his many business ventures, most notably were the Lilacs--dynamic financial models, combining life insurance and securities. He was a pioneer of this industry. Five lilac deals were closed in one year, totaling $1 billion of insurance. Aside from insurance, Mr. Netherland was in Venture Capital. In 1990, battling terminal cancer, he started Federated Technologies Incorporated. Proposing to put a hazardous waste facility in Giles County Tennessee, ultimately chose Noxubee County Mississippi. This deal would form the plot for the New York Times Best Seller: Uproar of Dancing Rabbit Creek. On top of his many business endeavors, he was also a loving father. In his free time, he loved hunting with his kids, playing golf and cutting down trees on his farms. He did everything in his power to make sure his children lived a life of comfort and full of love, not one day did he ever let them down. He loved his kids more than anything on this earth.

I've know Ed all my life, our friendship began in the third grade at Bellwood Elementary,Murfreesboro Central High, and attending separate colleges. Ed always kept in touch and we would catch up on what was going on in each others lives. We were best friends, Ed was patient, kind, funny with a big heart. Now to know my friend is gone is such a big loss. My love and prayers go out to Ed's family and especially to his children who he talked so much about. Ed was happy being your dad. There's a poem and the main verse has always stayed with me. If you could see me now ,you would never, never want me to leave this place. This place is GOD's place.
