Glen Barnes Obituary

Glen "Buddy" Raymond Barnes

Nashville - Buddy, (94) went to be with his beloved wife Sue Barnes and daughter Glenda Barnes Capp in heaven on August 17, 2018 as he passed at home with his family by his side. With a swift passing, Buddy never lost his sense of humor or smile.

Buddy was born August 25, 1923, in Sherman, TX. Surviving is his daughter Terri Barnes (Mike Berkley), granddaughter Lauren Barnes, her service dog Jules (Papaw's girl), and grandchildren from Glenda, Glen Collins, Kirsten Collins Diaz (Pete), three great-grandchildren Zoe, Samantha, Elenor Diaz, and his favorite sister Martha Barnes Mosier.

Buddy was a businessman from day one of his life. As a child, he mowed lawns to be able to pay for snacks, cowboy movies, and gas. He worked for the John E. Mitchell Co. making airplane parts, then drafted to serve in the Air Force as a radar reader in WWII. Buddy attended North Texas State University. After marrying his beloved wife Sue and moving from TX to Memphis TN, where he continued working for the Mitchell Co. as a cotton gin sales rep. In 1965, he became the first ICEE franchisee, Middle TN ICEE Co.. then branching out to include St. Louis ICEE, Knoxville ICEE, and Southeastern ICEE among other businesses giving him the title, "The ICEE Man."

Buddy was baptized into the Methodist church and attended Vine Street Christian in Nashville TN. His hobbies were thinking he was a comedian, traveling hand in hand with his wife Sue, driving around looking for cotton gins all while sampling pies along the road, and having a "toddy" with friends while watching the "Wheel." Buddy was never in the presence of a stranger.

His name was officially "Glen" but my friends and I called him Buddy. He was a champion player of dominoes,. He never lost his smile and was a kind and generous man . I will never forget his kindness to me when I first came t Nashville. Bye bye Buddy.

I was blessed to have known Glen for nearly 30 years. Always enjoying his company while laughing out loud with him. I worked for him for many years but even after he sold he would still call just to chat, check-up on family or just tell me a joke. Prayers for his family.
