Iona Bain Obituary

BAIN, Iona SullivanAge 89, passed away June 21, 2008 at Lakeshore - The Meadows after a short illness. Born April 23, 1919 in Fairview, TN, she was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Earl Bain in 1975. Survived by her daughter, Caroline W. Kennedy of Bluffton, SC and son, Ron E. Bain of Nashville; daughter-in-law, Peggy P. Bain; brothers, Earl Sullivan, Fairview, TN and Frank Sullivan, Nunnelly, TN; grandchildren, Jennifer W. Noel, Nashville, Julia C. Wallace, London, England, J. Kevin Bain, Brentwood, TN and Jana K. Bain, Nashville; great grandchildren, Alex Noel and Nicholas Jackson, Nashville, Hallie, Reese Riley Bain, Brentwood. Mrs. Bain was an original "Rosie the Riveter" - riveting wings on B-29s at Vultee Corporation during W.W. II. Her "can-do-spirit" stayed with her her entire life. Mrs. Bain began working for Caster Knott department store in Green Hills the day the store opened in 1953. She was a member of Granny White Church of Christ since 1952. An avid baker and gardener, she was known for her prize-winning bearded iris in June, tomatoes before the 4th of July and delicious pies and cakes. Whenever a pie was needed for the bereaved at church Mrs. Bain had one available. She was an avid walker and had logged more than 32,000 miles at the Green Hills Mall. She was also a member of the "Grand-Timers" at Granny White Church of Christ. Her time spent at the meadows was a time of joy. She enjoyed their outings, and participated in all events. The employees became her friends - they could set their clocks by "Miss Iona" - always early - always with a smile on her face. Once on the bus she'd say: "Get these wheels a "rolling." The lady with the silver hair and can-do-spirit loved life - her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many faithful friends and relatives.
