James Adams Bean

Crossville - James Adams Bean, 86, of Crossville, TN passed away peacefully on Dec. 26, 2017. He was born a twin (Thomas Lee Bean) in Crossville.

Jim is survived by his wife, Lynn Bean; daughters, Beverly Hart (Paul) and Ashleigh Christian (Raymond); granddaughter, Sarah Bixby (Andrew); and sister-in-law, Peggy Bean.

In addition to his parents, Charlie and Eva Stanley Bean, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Bethany Bean; twin, Tom Bean; brother, Bob Bean; sisters, Ann Tollet and Jackie Murray; and three infant siblings.

Visitation was held Saturday, Dec. 30, at Bilbrey Funeral Home followed by a graveside service and burial at Green Acres Cemetery, the Rev. Drew Shelley officiating. Pallbearers included Tommy Bean, Paul Hart, Andrew Bilbrey, Raymond Jacobs, Jeff Jacobs and Danny Schenk.

Jim was a lifelong resident of Cumberland County, except for a brief period of time when he (and twin brother Tom, never separated) was in the Air Force and pursuing his legal studies.

After four years in the Air Force - one in Korea - he attended Belmont College in Nashville, TN. Graduating with a degree in business administration, Jim remained in Nashville where he was the personnel manager for Gates Rubber Company. While employed there, he attended YMCA Night Law School for four years and earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence degree. He then moved to Crossville along with Tom and opened their private practice Bean and Bean Attorneys at Law.

Jim was appointed City Judge in 1978 and held that position until he was elected in 1982 to the post of General Sessions, Family and Probate Judge where he proudly served for 16 years.

After retirement, Jim was able to devote much of his time to his third love, "the game of golf" ranked only behind the love of his family and his love of the law.

Jim will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, The Muscular Dystrophy Association, or the charity of your choice.
