I had the pleasure of having Joe and Gov. Winfield Dunn serve on our board at Medical Properties of America. As a young executive I learned so much from Joe on board decisions. He is kindly thought of as a great person and is sorely missed.

Dearest Honey,
What a powerful life. Joe has done so many amazing things that I did not know about. My sweetest thought is when mother and Charlotte were getting ready for the trip to Washington for Joe's official appointment to serve as Ambassador to France (complete with pedicures) and the attention that he gave these women who adored him was so tender.
With love to you and yours,
Ann Young Moore

Dearest Mrs. Rodgers:
You and Joe gave me a Bible 10 Feb 1993 following Joe's witness for Christ at Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church.
I keep it by my bed for reading every night.
We can all be thankful for a life well lived. Good and faithful servent.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.

Honey, Mason & Jan
Your Husband and Father was the first mentor in my professional life. For several years I had the opportunity to observe, emulate and appreciate the depth of his character and the breadth of his wisdom. The devastating loss of his influence and presence must now be replaced by the memory of his remarkable good will toward others; his love for his family and the influence he left on the thousands of people who by his simple presence gave confidence, hope and a sense of devotion to duty and self. I will always remember his remarkable gift of understanding and appreciation, his love and passion for life and his devotion to his ideals. Thank you for sharing him with me. I will miss him greatly.
