John L Boone

John Boone died on November 21, 2020. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Sally Hardcastle Boone. He is survived by their three children, Kennie Boone Wieland (Glen) of Orlando, FL, Jay Boone (Lee Warren) and Martha Boone Bland (Griffin) of Franklin, TN as well as 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

He is also survived by his wife of 5 years - Ann Hutton Boone.

John was born 1927 in Elkton, KY to Dr. B.E.Boone Jr and Manie Street Boone. Upon graduation from Vanderbilt University in 1949, he joined The Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Co. and spent his business career in the life insurance industry. In 1969, he was one of the founders of the CLU firm Boone, Brandon, Johnston and Evans, Inc.

John was active in numerous business, religious and charitable organizations and served on the Board of the Nashville Chamber of Commerce, Salvation Army, Currey Ingram Academy, and numerous other organizations.

He was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Nashville where he served as an Elder and Clerk of Session for numerous terms. His passion for religious freedom prompted him to found Presbyterian Action for Faith and Freedom which later merged with the Washington, DC based Institute on Religion & Democracy (IRD). He served on the Board of IRD.

As one last gesture of his generosity, he donated his body to Vanderbilt Anatomical Research program.
