John SMALLWOOD Obituary
SMALLWOOD, John Robert, II "J.R."Age 32 of Madison, passed away on Friday, June 28, 2013. John was a music enthusiast who loved popular Rock and Roll and a local comedian who enjoyed basketball. He was preceded in death by his father, John R. Smallwood, Sr. and brother, Charles Leo Smallwood. He is survived by his mother, Peggy Smallwood; fiance, LaToya Gardner; step-daughter, Alyssa Burrus; sisters, Stacy Smallwood and Tina Rosowicz. His family will receive friends from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2nd at Spring Hill Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 3rd at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Spring Hill Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alyssa Burrus Education Fund @ Ascend Credit Union. 1-800-342-3086. I have been thinking of you as your birthday approaches. I read over all these kind words and Daddy and your dad come to mind. What a big heart you all had. When your dad passed all I thought of was his laughter. I hear his laugh often as he comes to mind. We were so blessed to have had you at all in our lives. To the family ~ My deepest condolences on the passing of J.R. - I remember J.R. from Stratford. He and my son Josh Murphy were classmates, in band together and friends. I have many memories of being in the SHS Band Boosters and getting involved with all the kids~especially J.R.~ he always had a great attitude, was so much fun to be around and made everyone laugh. Rest in peace- such a sweet guy. So very sorry for your loss. May God bless you all and bring you peace.

JR was a real sweetheart. I haven't seen him since freshman year at TSU, but he always made me laugh and smile. I was shocked to find out about his passing and my condolences to his family and friends. He will truly be missed.

I was J.R.'s high school band director. JR was a special soul. He brightened any room and anyone with his personality. He never had a harsh word for anyone. He will truly be missed.

I never saw him mad or upset. He always kept a smile on his face or made someone else smile and laugh. I went to Stratford with J.R. and he was real cool and laid back. So sorry to hear about his death. Prayers going up to his family and friends. R.I.P. J.R.

I couldn't believe it when I heard of JRs passing. Even though I had not seen him since high school, I never forgot what a kind and funny person he was. My heart goes out to his family. He will truly be missed.

J.R. and I were in kindergarten back in 86. I remember this play we had to do and my Mom made the animal costumes. JR was so excited she was making them. Its on of many memories I remember. He had such a tender heart and one heck of a laugh. I really hate to see another person leave this Earth. I am glad he is free of cancer and pain. May God be with his friends and family! When I think of you... I think of SHS Marching band... You truly danced to the tune of your own drum.. You were the only "white boy" we knew with so much "Soul"! You even had a solo part and would get to run down to the middle of the field and dance! Wowsers we had a blast! And so many good times! To the Family of the late JR Smallwood, REJOICE!!! Although my interaction with J.R. was brief compared to many who knew him, it didn't take long to figure out that J.R. was a sincere, funny, kindly, and humble sweetheart of a guy. Everyone in the Nashville comedy scene who met J.R. liked him immediately. He made a great impression with those of us fortunate enough to get to know him, no matter the level of intimacy.

You was a sweet friend good person to talk to.. Great Dancer . I remember when we went to the prom together in 1998 and that same night we went to Olive Garden ....it was day after The 1998 Tornado, You met my Mom and Dad in the dark nobody had lights in East Nashville .
