William TWITTY Obituary

TWITTY, William Thomas "Tom"Age 79 of Old Hickory, passed away March 12, 2011. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Cheryl Murray Twitty; sons, George "Jug" (Beth) Twitty and Thomas "Jar" (Marcia) Twitty; sister, Sarah Ellen Matlock of Cowan, TN; brother, Philip (Betty) Twitty of Seymour, TN; grandchildren, Megan, George, Thomas and Hunter; great-grandchildren, Hunt and Hayes; mother-in-law, Betty Murray; brother-in-law, Johnny (Toddy) Murray. Tom was an avid golfer and was a member of Ravenwood Golf Club. He was on the football team at UT when they won the National Championship in 1951. After his football days, Tom was commissioned in the U.S. Marine Corps as a 2nd Lieutenant. He loved the outdoors. Tom was a kind and loving husband, a wonderful father, grandfather and friend who will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, Brenthaven Cumberland Presbyterian Church Building Fund or Cumberland Presbyterian Children's Home, Denton, TX. A celebration of his life will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at Woodlawn's Dignity Hall with Reverends Don Tabor and Kip Rush officiating. Interment to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Active Pallbearers are Johnny Matlock, Johnny Murray, Reese Kincaid, George, Hunter and Thomas Twitty. Honorary Pallbearers are Marjorie and Wyma Casteel, Jimmy Mosley, Ravenwood OBA, Dr. Vinita Anand and Staff at DCI Summit. Visitation will be 4 -7 p.m. today and 1 hour prior to the service Tuesday.

Tom was an ole football team mate of mine and we used to meet for many years at Garrett Drug store in Nashville and we would solve all the world problesm. He was a dear friend and will be missed.

Our sincere condolences on the death of Tom. He was a true gentleman and represented all things good. We worked together during his tenure at Riker. I always looked up to him as a mentor and a friend.
