Audrey Mayo Obituary

Addison, NY | Audrey Ruth "Corky" Mayo, 86, of Elcor Health Care, Horseheads, formerly of Addison, passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Elcor.

Born in Canisteo, NY on Nov. 29, 1929, Corky was the daughter of Benjamin and Marian (Allen) Jamison. Growing up around Canisteo, she was a graduate of Canisteo Central School. Corky was a member of the Canisteo Alumni Assoc. and lifelong member of the South Canisteo Methodist Church. As a young woman, Corky had been employed at St. James Hospital and at Marion Rohr, both in Hornell.

On Oct. 9, 1973 she married Harvey R. Mayo in Addison. They made their home together in Addison until Harvey's death on Apr. 27, 1994. She assisted Harvey with his accounting business as well as being a homemaker, caring for a very large extended family. She truly loved this part of her life with Harvey and their children, an era which she considered her most treasured.

Corky served as town clerk for the Town of Addison. She was always the care giver, caring for elderly people including her mother and others and also provided child care for numerous families in the Addison area.

Corky had also been in the restaurant business, operating with Harvey the Hot Spot Diner in Addison as well as the Gang Mills Diner. She worked at the Ritz Café and the Empire Steak House as well. In later years, she was the bookkeeper and store manager for her son Steve's businesses, Fox's Pizza and Steve's Beverage. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. She loved her traveling adventures with her sister in law Norma. Corky had the ability to bring a smile to the face of the people she encountered. Even as a patient in the nursing facilities, she added sunshine to all around her.

Surviving are her children, Barbara (William) Sullivan of Addison, Sherry Eason (Chuck Stewart) of Hornell, Jennifer (Paul) Willis Jr. of Canisteo and Stephen (Sherry) Woodward of Addison, step children, Bob (Beth) Mayo of Jasper, Yvonne Bailey of Corning, Audrey (Joe) Lando of Corning, Roxanne Mayo of Newark, NY, Diane (Joe) Tavano of Clyde, NY and Pam (Peter) Salerno of Clyde, NY, many grandchildren great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, brothers, Michael (Georgia) Jamison and Joseph (Euclida) Jamison, sisters, Janet Coates, Cindy Dennis-Brown and Sally Stutzman and many nieces and nephews.
