Carol Witchey Obituary

Carol Witchey, age 75 of Ithaca (formerly of Corning, NY) entered the Great Gig in the Sky peacefully at Cayuga Ridge Nursing Home on March 7, 2018. She joins her father, Lloyd Stringfellow, mother Doris Bell, brother, Jack Stringfellow. Left to cherish her memory are devoted son Brian, his wife Lisa (Siskin) Witchey, twin grandchildren, Alyssa & Joshua, sister-in-law Renee Stringfellow, as well as many former students & friends. Carol was born in Emporium, PA on October 28th, 1942. She received her bachelor's degree at Lock Haven University and Masters' at Elmira College. Her long career teaching English at Addison High School gave so many students the chance to have a teacher with such a big & generous heart. Her home was often a respite for students who were facing life's challenges. Carol really admired all of us for who we were and saw the strength and talents that each person possessed. Her love of music, film and theater was powerful and you couldn't be around her and not be swept up in her absolute fearless and awesome love of the arts. Musicians gathered in her home, which was affectionately known as the 'Twilight Ballroom', for lively jams, she on the piano and Brian on drums. Her talents were apparent while playing for many productions at Addison High School, Corning Community College and Camp Iroquois Theatre Camp on Keuka Lake. She was an avid reader, usually pool side and had an open-door policy for hours of board game play, especially Scrabble. She did not hold back her booming laugh and had many idiosyncrasies to which one would reply "only Carol!". Carol moved to Ithaca after suffering a stroke at a young age, fortunate to be closer to her beloved son during those difficult years. One of her greatest delights was watching her grandchildren grow. She loved her family and was proud of them. It was a fabulous wild ride to be a friend of hers, and the memories she made with all of us will last forever. Donations in Carol's name may be made to the Addison CSD, 7 Cleveland Drive, Addison, NY, 14801. Join us to bid her adieu this Sunday, March 18, 2018 from 1pm-4pm at The Market, 1774 Danby Road in Ithaca. Send your memories to Witchey Family, 723 Five Mile Drive, Ithaca, NY 14850 or [email protected] to share at her celebration.

Brian and Family, Sorry for your Loss.

To share your mom with Much ACS for so many years was quite a challenge for you, yet, your were always first in her heart and mind, her everything. She was happy to be able to be near you for so many years after she left ACS.
May the Lord Jesus Christ, who died for each of us, bring you and your family peace in this time of sorrow.

Carol was my tenant for so many years at University Park. She would call me to come and help her with things as needed, and would always offer up a beautiful smile and amazing sense of humor. God bless this angel with a beautiful heart. My condolences to her family.

Brian, we didn't know your mom but can see from her picture that your full-faced, joyful smile comes from her. I'm sure you reflect her in many other ways as well Let us know if there's any way we can help you through this sad time. With love, Carolyn and Adam

Carol Witchey will forever and always hold a special place in my heart. She was my Drama Coach in so many productions over the years, I've lost count. In our production of "Our Town", after the curtain call, she approached me with tears running down her face and an enormous smile with such praise that I have cherished my entire life. She was a force to be reckoned with; we'll miss that laughter & love; FOREVER. Trip the lights Fantastic in Heaven, Ms. Witchey, and know how very much you were loved by so many; ALWAYS!!!

Your mom was my teacher at Williamson High School in Tioga, PA in the 1965-66 school year. Now, I realize she was only five years older than our class. She was so pretty, and never had a hair out of place. I have often wondered where she was, and didn't realize she was teaching right across the hill from where I have lived all my life. I am so sorry for your loss. May God comfort all of you.

This obituary captures Carol in every way. She was one of my favorite teachers (Addison)and I can still remember her laugh. My friend Nikki Llewellyn and I had her in hysterics when we did our final drama project which was a 'talent show'. Carol was also my 'ride' back and forth to Corning for the weekends. My sympathies to all of you and hope all the wonderful memories help ease your loss. Sandy (Stetler) Diamond
