James Warren Obituary
Jim was born in Rocky Mount, NC to the late Luther Thomas and Nettie Winstead Warren. He grew up on a large farm in Battleboro, NC. He graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High, he then went on to earn a Bachelor's degree in Wildlife Biology in 1963, and a Master's degree in Horticulture in 1972 from NC State University. He was employed by the NC State Extension Services and the NC Dept of Agriculture for 35 years before retirement in 2000. He was a proud veteran of the Army National Guard where he served for 7 years.
After he retired, he enjoyed fishing, gardening, boating, building bluebird boxes, Wolfpack sports, and watching his grandson play soccer. He coached for 8 seasons in CASL when his boys were young.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Justin in 2022; and half-sisters, Christine Maddox, and Anne O'Briant Hales.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Carole Barrow Warren; son, Brandon (Stephanie) Warren; grandchildren, Alyssa, Audrey, and Jack Warren; brother, Tom Warren; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in honor of Jim to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org, the American Lung Association at action.lung.org, or to a charity of your choice.
The family will receive friends on Friday, April 25, 2025 from 4-6 PM at Bright Funeral Home, 405 S. Main St. Wake Forest, NC 27587.
