Shirley Gupton Obituary

Shirley Joyce Jeffreys Gupton, 89, of Wake Forest, North Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, March 20, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family. She was born in Nash County on November 11, 1935.

Mrs. Gupton was a long-time member of Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church, where she was an integral part of the community for over 40 years and a resident of the Wake Cross Roads Community since 1967. Throughout her life, she touched countless lives through her generous spirit, selfless acts of kindness, and deep faith.

A dedicated wife and mother, Mrs. Gupton was truly a gift to her family. She never hesitated to provide for her loved ones in any way she could. Whether preparing meals, supporting her husband and son in their endeavors, or lovingly caring for her family, she was always there with open arms. Her talents were many, including her skill for sewing-whether making curtains, creating clothes, or mending Jeff's clothes after his adventurous boyhood activities.

Shirley passed down a love of reading to her son Jeff and was always a playful presence in the lives of her grandchildren. Whether playing games, dressing up for Halloween, or getting on the floor to join in the fun, she cherished every moment spent with her grandkids, doing whatever she could to bring them happiness.

She had a great love for nature, and every year, the family would tend to a big garden. Shirley spent numerous hours nurturing the plants, pulling weeds, harvesting, and canning the fruits of their labor. Her heart was always full of love for her family, and she poured that love into everything she did-caring for siblings, nieces, nephews, and anyone in need.

Shirley's tremendous heart and devotion will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, kindness, and service will live on in the memories of all who were blessed to know her.

Mrs. Gupton is survived by her son, Jeff Gupton & wife, Angie of Raleigh; grandchildren, Brooke Garrett & husband, Jonathan of Franklinton and Grant Gupton of Raleigh; as well as her extended family and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Powell Gupton; mother Annie Mae Perry Lloyd; stepfather, George Jeffreys, Sr.; stepfather, Claude Lloyd; siblings, George Jeffreys, Jr., Florine "Jo" Strickland, Margie Finch, Jeanette Vick and Faye Radford.

A celebration of her life will be held at 11 o'clock, Saturday morning, April 12, 2025 at Clancy Strickland Wheeler Funeral Home & Cremation Service. Friends are invited to visit with the family immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Wake Cross Roads Baptist Church, 3328 Forestville Rd, Raleigh, NC 27616.
