Dwayne Leger

OPELOUSAS - On January 19, 2012 at 11:45 p.m., Dwayne Dale Leger, age 53, passed away peacefully at his home with his family at his bedside. He was a native and lifelong resident of Prairie Ronde community, and an entrepeneur in several businesses during his short lifetime. He had a genuine love for people and that was always apparent with a large smile and a playful twinkle in his eyes. He had recently retired with the St. Landry Parish School Board as a bus driver with thirty years of service. He was a member of Elks Lodge in Opelousas, and a lifelong member of the Quarterhorse Association. Dwayne was also an avid sportsman who loved to hunt and fish, and was ready to cook up a good meal for family and friends at his shop or outdoor kitchen. He also had a great love for all animals especially his beloved dog companion "Sissy". At the time of his illness he was the proprietor of Dwayne's Car Care and Tire Center.

He is survived by his mother and father, Glinden "Glen" Leger and Lillian LeJeune Leger, his older sister; Cynthia Leger Prather and husband Randall Prather, and their children, Christina Prather and fiancée Kevin Belton, and Savanna Prather. His younger sister; Pamela Leger Harmon and husband Keith Harmon and their children; Katherine Manual Miller and her husband J W Miller and Chelsea Harmon Mistric and her husband Dustin Mistric. He is also survived by a great niece, Lily Miller, and great nephew, Kade Miller.

He was preceeded in death by his maternal grandparents; Adam and Leta LeJeune , paternal grandparents; Camille and Mable Dupre Leger and maternal godfather Abram LeJeune.

Pallbearers will be Gary Vidrine, Lenard Bertrand, June Guillory, Raynal Manuel, Raphael Young, Duane Olivier, Jan Ledoux and David Ledoux. Honarary pallbearers will be his two brother-in-laws Keith Harmon and Randall Prather, also, Joe Benoit, Chester Darbonne and Quentin Hidalgo.

Visting hours will be held on Saturday from 2-9 p.m. and will reopen on Sunday morning at 8 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. A rosary will be recited on Saturday evening at 6 p.m., by Deacon Sammy Diesi. Father Austin Leger will officiate the services, at 1 p.m. in the Sibille Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Memorial Park Cemetary. The family would like to extend special thanks to Dwayne's godmother Myrna Martin, Janice Kidder and other members of the immediate family for all there love and support during his illness.

Also, special thanks to the staff of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Dr. Alemany and The Heart of Hospice.
