SCOTT - Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at a 10:00 AM Service in Martin & Castille Funeral Home in Scott for John Scott Dewey, 64, who died on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at his residence in Duson.
Interment will be held in Sts. Peter & Paul Cemetery in Scott.
Reverend Dr. Steve Horn of First Baptist Church in Lafayette will officiate the services.
He leaves to cherish his memory three daughters, Mary Clark and her husband, Greg, Edie Dewey and Rachelanne James and her husband, Taylor; one son, Richard Hoffkins and his wife, Carla; his mother, Edith Harris Dewey; and ten grandchildren, Dylan Clark, Christopher Dewey, Brandon Clark, Noah Dewey, Tyler Clark, Hannah Monk, Caleb Monk, Christian James, Samantha and Katarina Adkisson .
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maureen Dewey; and his father, Kenneth Dewey.
John Scott Dewey was born on August 20, 1949 in Cortland, New York and was a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana for over 24 years. He was a member of the United States Marine Corp and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He worked for many years as a truck driver until his retirement. Mr. Dewey was an avid outdoorsman and big sports fan who loved cheering on his New Orleans Saints. He was a very generous person who was always there to help anyone, and he often volunteered by cooking for local schools in Lafayette. Mr. Dewey was a loving son, father, and grandfather who loved spending time with his family, especially his grandkids. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Pallbearers will be Greg Clark, Richard Hoffkins, Dylan Clark, Christopher Dewey, Brandon Clark, Noah Dewey and Brian Lehto. Honorary pallbearers will be, Tyler Clark, Caleb Monk and Taylor James.
The family requests that visitation be observed at Martin & Castille's SCOTT Location on Friday, May 30, 2014 from 1:00 PM to 10:00 PM and will continue on Saturday, May 31, 2014 from 8:00 AM until time of services.
