Lawrence "Larry" Linn Swan

LAFAYETTE - Lawrence "Larry" Linn Swan, 69, of Lafayette, Louisiana, passed away on Friday, July 29, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Visitation will be from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm, Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Delhomme Funeral Home, 1011 Bertrand Drive, Lafayette, Louisiana. Memorial Services will be held in the Delhomme Funeral Home Chapel of the Flowers on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Larry Langley, Pastor of The Garden Baptist Church, Lafayette officiating.

Larry was born January 4, 1947 in Madison, Wisconsin to Lawrence and Ella Jane (Woodhouse) Swan. Larry was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served from 1964 to 1967, including deployment to Vietnam during the war before being honorably discharged. After his time in the Army, Larry attended the University of Southwestern Louisiana graduating with a degree in Restaurant Administration in 1977. Once he graduated, rather than beginning a career in the restaurant industry, he spent many years working as a petroleum land man in various parts of Louisiana, but primarily in Lafayette. Larry was an active member of the Garden Baptist Church of Lafayette. He enjoyed visiting the library, reading, traveling, growing orchids and he had a special heart for rescue animals.

Larry is survived by his wife Virginia "Ginger" Scrivner Swan; his son, Carl Swan and his wife Shelley Swan; two grandchildren, Connor and Chloe; step-mother, Anita G. Swan; two brothers, Erick Swan and Kirtland Swan, MD and his former wife, Elizabeth Sperry.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Cancer Center of Acadiana and Dr. Michael Cain for their care and dedication. Also, thanks to the members of the Garden Baptist Church for their love and support.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to The Garden Baptist Church, 103 Merchants Blvd, Lafayette, LA 70508. The donations will be directed to Larry's favorite charities: Miles Perret Center Cancer Services, Maranatha Ministries, Creole Poodle Rescue and Lafayette Library Friends.
