Peter Lowry Obituary

Peter Glenn Lowry

LAFAYETTE - Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at 3:00 PM in Asbury United Methodist Church in Lafayette, for Peter Glenn Lowry, 19, who died on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Lafayette General Medical Center.

Reverend Richard Humphries, Pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church in Lafayette will conduct the funeral services.

Survivors include his parents, Dennis and Melanie Hoffpauir Lowry of Lafayette; two sisters, Lily Lowry and Grace Lowry, both of Lafayette; one brother, Henry Lowry of Lafayette; his maternal grandfather, Morris Hoffpauir, M.D.; his aunts, Mary Louise, Gayle, Cathy, Carol, Karen, Marcee, Laurie and Crystal; his uncles, Kerney, Billy, A.J., Jack, Mark, Mike and Mo; and his cousins, Andy, Alan, Chris, John, Bill, Brad, Greg, Brian, Patrick, Jared, Sam, Kristie, Susie, Patricia, Kelly, Melissa, Amanda, Rebecca, Emilie and Hannah.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Marilyn Hoffpauir; his paternal grandparents, John and Bernice M. Lowry; his uncle, Bob Gilmore; and cousin, Gary Guidry.

"On April 2, 2011, my oldest brother, Peter, found himself in an unfortunate situation that forced tears down many people's cheeks. Although he led himself to believe he was invincible, God wanted him for some good reason. I do not blame God for wanting him at all, for Peter was something truly special. He was a shining star. His characteristics, indescribable. He was much more than caring and loving. You cannot just claim him daring, because he had much more depth than that. You could never replace Peter with anything. His laugh could heal more than a broken heart, which means he will be more than missed."-Lily Lowry

"On April 2, 2011, my oldest brother's life ended. He was more than just a brother to me. He was more like a best friend, one who encouraged me to do good in school and was always there for me. He was like a shiny new penny in a stack of old rusty pennies. He was not only loved by me, but my whole family enjoyed his company and laughter. He could make someone laugh so hard even if they were crying before. He also had many friends who loved the daring yet caring and loving Peter. He is indescribable and I always wanted him around to make things even better. And we have to remember the lives he saved and even though we will miss him greatly, I am so glad he was a part of my life."-Grace Lowry

"When Peter was a young toddler, I would often ask, "Do you want me to hold you?". As he learned to speak, he would hold his arms out to me and say "hold you, hold you." One evening, Peter toddled up to me and said, "Hold you, hold you". As he settled on my hip, he pointed to the moon and said, "Moon! Hold it!" He was charmed and enchanted. Of course he could not hold the moon. Peter is like the moon to us now. We will remain charmed and enchanted, bathed in his other worldly light, and wanting to hold him so very much. Peter is now free. Peter is now home."-Melanie Lowry

Pallbearers will be Henry Lowry, Andy Galy, Alan Galy, Chris Galy, John Lowry, Bill Lowry, Brad Gilmore, Greg Gilmore, Brian Guidry, Patrick Stanton, Jared Stanton and Sam Hoffpauir.

The family requests that visitation be observed in Asbury United Methodist Church in Lafayette on Wednesday, April 6, 2011 from 2:00 PM until time of service.

Donations can be made in Peter Lowry's name to LOPA, 4441 N. I-10 Service Rd. W, Metairie, LA 70006 and Episcopal School of Acadiana, P. O. Box 380, Cade, LA 70519.

I had the genuine pleasure of teaching Peter Sunday School, when he was in the fourth grade (in fact I taught his siblings when they in the fiurth grade as well). Having lost touch with Asbury, I have just learned of his passing. Though late in my conveyance, I want all of Peter's family to know that you are in my thoughts and in my prayers. I knew Peter as a devoted brother to his younger siblings. He was blessed with an incredible personality and wonderful sense of humor and was a joy to teach. The world was indeed a better place for his having been here.

It has been many years since we moved from across the street on Bellevue Plantation Rd, but I can remember clear as a bell the times our children played in the backyard, shared stories and laughter. They would often be covered in mud or sometimes would find creepy crawlers and wanna hide them under their bed! Peter, although only three, was very curious, had a wide imagination and a profound a sense of humor-we loved listening to his stories.
We are no longer living across the St., but our heart is with you during this difficult time. May God bless Peter and your beautiful family always.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Dear Lowry family,
I was shocked to hear the news of Peter's passing. It seems like just yesterday Peter and I were sitting in the kitchen reviewing spanish words, or making sure all of the homework was done. I had some great times with all of you guys, even though it was several years ago.
Ms. Melanie, God needed your angel for something we may never know about. Just know that there are people out here praying for all of you guys in your time of need.

I was not very close to Peter, but family is family and that can't be broken. My mom has had the worst time with Peter leaving us, she is heartbroken. I know he is in the best place you can be, Heaven. He will be missed by a lot of people. Although his in Heaven, I encourage all who read this to take time to say a prayer for Peter. We miss you dearly Peter!
