Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years, Patricia Louise Hampton; his daughter, Leigh Garbarino and her husband, Joe; his grandchildren, Joseph, Bennett, Anne-Marie, John Mark, and Thomas Garbarino, and his sister-in-law, Merinell Bennett.

Robert Neil Bennett, born August 17, 1940, in Leonard, Texas, spent his formative years in Sherman, Texas, where he accepted Christ at the Central Baptist Church at an early age, and met his wife, Pat, at Sherman High School. He and Pat married on August 13, 1962, at Central Baptist Church in Sherman. Bob served in the United States Marine Reserve Corps, and for 33 years, was a law enforcement officer for Southern Pacific Transportation Company, eventually serving as Captain for the Lafayette Division beginning in 1980.
After retirement, he was a Lafayette Parish Deputy Sheriff, serving for many years at the Courthouse entry. Bob was a member of the Lafayette Lion's Club and following his second retirement, he and Pat took extensive road trips throughout much of the United States. He treasured the visits, birthday celebrations and holidays spent with his wife, daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. Bob was a strong and faithful presence in the lives of his family and will be deeply missed.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Calcutta House at Hospice of Acadiana for the compassionate care given to Robert and his family.
