Lisa,
I was so sorry to hear about your husband. I don't know what to say, but I want you to know that I'm thinking about you. I know you have support from family and friends, but you remain in the hearts and thoughts of others as well.
Following the loss of my brother-in-law recently, one scripture always seems to fit...Lamentations 3:
"My soul is bereft of peace; I have forgotten what happiness is... But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."

After losing a Dear Friend Detective Terry Melancon almost a year before your families tragic loss, it is disheartening to know the hurt another family must go through because they lost their loved one while you were simply "just doing your job". We wake up every morning to do our jobs, but we don't wake up knowing our job is a huge risk like that of law enforcement. Thank you for bravely waking up each day to protect us. Your family, friends, and Law Enforcement Officers are forever in my prayers.

Dear Metternich Family,
I first met your family years ago, when Mary Katherine & I went to Elem. School together. We also went to High School together. I always remember y'all as being a loving, close family. A family of good people. I remember Mrs & Mr Metternich being about everything when it came to Chris & Mary Katherine, the type of parents every child wishes for. Chris was often refered to as "Mary Katherine's little brother" by our fellow classmates. Ms. Metternich I can not begin to imagine what it feels to lose a child, even as a parent I can't imagine & Mary Katherine I can't begin to imagine what it feels to lose a brother, even as a sister I can't imagine, but I do hope that it gives the both of you comfort in knowing that y'all had a very special bond & Chris couldn't have been more loved by any other mom or sister in the world. Y'all had the type of bond others can only dream of! Chris was always a sweet, good child & I am not a bit surprised that he grew into a sweet, good man! Ms. Metternich, you & Mr. Metternich did a wonderful job w/ your kids, they were always good people growing up & when I think of both, Chris & Mary Katherine, what always comes to mind is that they are just really good people. The type of people that if there were more of, this world would be a much better place!
May God Be With You!!

Lisa, There is not a day that goes by that I don't say a prayer for you and your family. I miss your beautiful smile at work and pray that God will heal your broken heart in due time. I hope that you feel that I am here for you if you need anything from an ear to listen to, a shoulder to cry on, a babysitter to watch your children, an errand girl to run errands or whatever. May you truly know how much we care for you at LWHA.

Dear Metternich family, I wanted to offer my deepest condolences in your loss of Chris,
I have known Chris for about 6 or 7 years since I first met him at a police motorcycle rodeo I think in Washington DC.
I always admired his friendliness and his dedication to being a motor officer. He always competed hard at the rodeos and I was always impressed that he took time to talk with me and I enjoyed his company.
Having just spent time with him in South Carolina a month ago I was shocked today when I found he had left us.
I can't say anything that could possibly ease your grief but I will thank you for all of your sacrafices thoughout his career, as every officer needs his family in order to make it out there.

To the entire Metternich family, I am so very sorry for the loss that you are suffering. Rest assured that God's strength will pull you through. Rely on your faith. I only wish I was lucky enough to have met this awesome angel.
Lisa, I lost my husband in an automobile accident 3 years ago, the only thing I can tell you is to cherish your memories. I had a child who was 1 when he was taken, so be blessed that you have your little girl to remember him by and not to menchion your son.

When Chris was born only God knew his destiny. Sometimes our lives are cut short since God has bigger plans for some of us. Heros are special angels and God needed a hero. Unfortunate for those who loved Chris, God chose Chris as his special angel to protect him in the garden of eternal life. As Chris protects all the other angels above, he will continue to serve and protect those that he loved here on Earth. Chris will be missed by many, but forgotten by none. God bless all of our heros whether standing or fallen.

I can say I was blessed to know Chris and I had the honor to say that he worked for me. Chris represented our department in such an honorable fashion. Anyone who knew Chris can tell you what an incredible person he was. God blessed Chris with a wonderful smile that defused so many situations and helped him make so many friends. You will be missed tremendously but never forgotten. You will be the source of many wonderful stories to so many young officers, especially those who want so badly to be a Motorman like you. God Bless you and your family. Most of all Thanks for touching my life in such a special way.

Dear Lisa, Chris's mom and all those close to Chris. I am so sorry for the loss of your precious Chris. Every morning when I light my prayer candle, you will be included in my prayers. I met you last night with Jimmy and Sylvia Smith. The power point presentation of Chris and family and also police family were very touching. Chris has accomplished what God wanted him to do in a very short lifespand. As the book of Wisdom says, "The just person, though he die early shall be at rest. For the age that is honorable comes not with the passing of years, but rather understanding." What a beautiful smile he had. Needless to say, his smile radiates the beauty of his soul. May God's blessings and presence be with you during this sad time in your lives. Sister Ameline Theriot

from the kelleher family, i personally want to extend my deepest sypathies. i am very very sorry we have lost another wonderful family member. but know that all of the family are in our prayers. and all of you and the polce dept. are on healing place church prayer list. when i greive, as all of our police families do for one another, i keep seeing GODS HANDS CUPPED TOGETHER on in front of himself with Cris in them., so he never hit the ground. God had Cris in his hads on impact, and taken to heaven to be with his dad. We dont know why things happen, but i must say you must grieve and go thru the motions then you must keep his memory alive for the children. the baby will know she has the best dad in the world and she WILL be PROUD OF HER DAD. please also know that persons u dont even know are praying for your entire famiily and you nor yours will ever be forgotten. I am truely sorry for a great great loss. but the loss is in the pyhysical only . He is still here in spirit and that baby will know her dad by the things you tell her, and all of thee videos and photos and she will be proud. i know i am . GOD BLESS. MELISSA KELLEHER KENNEDY

Dear Lisa & Family:
I am Elisha & Duck's cousin Alicha, and we have met on several occasions thru Elisha. I cannot express to you the ache deep within my heart for you and your children. Please know that to be absent from the body is to be present with Our Lord. I cannot even begin to find the words to say to you and your children and family, however know that he was a very honorable and admirable young man according to these very highest spoken words regarding his life. You and your children have a very special angel watching over you for your every moment and when you feel that gentle breeze across your face, or that warmth and glow of an afternoon sunshine, you already know WHO AND WHERE it is coming from. Once again, my heart truly aches deeply for you and your children. Please know that you are and will continue to be in my prayers. Please find strength, solitude, and love that passes all understanding in Our Lord God Almighty. Cast your sorrows, unanswered questions and grief upon him and he will not leave you nor forsake you. May Our Heavenly Father carry you and Sage and Alexa gently thru this path of grief, and know that you are never alone. Bryan, Alicha, Bryan Dakota & Lily Bryanne McDonald.

To the Metternich Family:
I am so sorry for your loss. My husband is a police officer, also, (Bull) and I know how special your husband was to everyone. He has gone home to be with the Lord. I hope you find comfort in knowing this. God Bless you and your family.

Dear Lisa,
I am so very sorry for your loss, I can only imagine the hurt and pain you are enduring. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family, May God get ya'll through this difficult time.
Lisa, I've known you as my nurse for years and Chris through my husband at the motorcycle competitions I know he was a good man. This is a very unfortunate accident, I can only hope and pray people will now be more cautious of their surroundings and look out for our motorists.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Metternich Family,
I want to express my sympathy to you over the loss of Chris. I grew up with Chris in Baton Rouge. The thing is I only remember the good things. We was great person that was very loving and caring. Even for people he did not know. He always took pride in what he does. He was a great roll model. I will miss him deeply.

Lisa, I am a friend of your Dad, your Mom and Jack, I drive a bus with your Mom and want you to know that all of us appreciate what your husband did for this community. I know this will be a difficult time for you and your children but just count on your Parents and family members to help you through. I know several Police Officers in BR and pray daily for their safety. I know you will always be proud of Chris.
