Delbert Hunt Obituary

Delbert Ethan "Dee" Hunt, 86, died on August 30, 2013 at 1:10pm at his home in Zachary, Louisiana surrounded by his family. He was a graduate of Zachary High School in the class of 1945. He was a veteran of the United States Navy where he spent 5 years in the South Pacific Ocean and 1 year in the Korean War. Returning home, he went to work at Florida Gas Pipeline for 27 years. After retiring from Florida Gas, he went to work for EBRPSO in Civil Processing and retired from there 11 years later. He loved to travel and was an avid outdoorsman, especially enjoying hunting and fishing. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Zachary. He is survived by his wife and the love of his life for 63 years, Dottie Hunt; two daughters, Mary Lou Sheridan and husband Brad; Jamie Kirby and husband Vernon; one son, David Hunt and wife Debbie. He has 8 grandchildren, Jodie Allen and wife Cassie, Lynn Mason and husband Robert, Neal Allen and wife Taylor, Bert Kirby, De'Anne Pilcher and husband Nathan, Scott Hunt and wife Stacey, Janna LeGrange and husband Ben, Katie Amorello and husband Joe. He was also blessed with 19 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, David Franklin Hunt Sr., mother, Lucille Hunt Payne and brother, David Franklin Hunt Jr. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to First Baptist Church of Zachary Building Fund. Pallbearers are Jodi Allen, Robert Mason, Neal Allen, Bert Kirby, Nathan Pilcher, Scott Hunt, Ben LeGrange, Joe Amorello Jr. and Justin Tassin. Honorary pallbearers are his 19 great grandchildren. A special thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and staff at Baton Rouge General on Bluebonnet for their love, care and support they provided to the family. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 1, 2013 at First Baptist Church in Zachary from 5:00-8:00pm and Monday, September 2, 2013 at 1:00-3:00pm. The funeral will be held by Dr. Wayne Barnes, Dr. Reggie Bridges and Dr. Brythel Brantley of First Baptist Church of Zachary on Monday, September 2, 2013 at 3:00 and burial following. His favorite scripture was John 3:16, For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. In the end, his greatest gift of all was the essence of a man with spirit, a charming nature, distinguished humor and oversized humanity that will forever live on through his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. My Uncle DE to me was always larger than life. He and My Aunt Dot held my heart always. Such an amazing man. I will miss him terribly but know he is sitting at the feet of Jesus and will watch over all of us. My prayers and love are with my dear Aunt Dot and my precious cousins during this time and always. I love you all so much.

Aunt Dot, Mary Lou, Jamie, David and Debbie... My heart is breaking. I was so sorry to hear of Uncle Dee's passing. He was such a wonderful man and I know your hearts are aching at your loss. I loved running into him in Walmart grabbing a few groceries for Aunt Dot. His light hearted loving spirit and his pride and devotion to his family has always been so inspiring to me. Even when he came to my house in Zachary to serve papers on Matthew... We were so glad to see him and he gave us that big smile and comforting words... Always the inspiration. I know Momma and Harvey are already bending his ear! I love y'all so much and please know that you are in my heart, my thoughts, and in my prayers at this time of great loss.
