Douglas Richards Obituary

On the evening of April 4, 2024, Douglas (Doug) Richards passed peacefully from this world into the waiting arms of his Creator at the age of 65. Doug was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas and moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1959. He was a father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many. He graduated from Tara High School and attended University of Louisiana Lafayette. An avid outdoors man his whole life, Doug loved fishing, hunting, football, golf and auto-racing. He loved to entertain and talk with everyone, and was never one to forget a story. And equally, he was always telling stories of his fun-filled life with family and friends. Doug enjoyed life to the fullest and was never at a loss for a joke to put a smile on your face. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley (Sonny) Richards and Helen Richards. He is survived by his three children, Jennifer Richards, Jill Richards Swaggart and son-in-law Gabriel of Baton Rouge, and Benjamin Richards of Pensacola, FL; his brother Gary Richards and wife Nessie of Zachary; his sister Gaye Hollingsworth and husband Mike of Baton Rouge. He leaves behind four beautiful granddaughters, Samantha Swaggart, Abby Swaggart, Caroline Swaggart & Mackenzie Swaggart, as well as loving nieces and nephews, Gary Stephen Richards and wife Robyn, Janyne Soileau and husband Felix, Alice Glasser and husband Harlan, Hope Hollingsworth Nall and husband Slater, Blake Hollingsworth, and wife Kendall. As well as close cousins Kent Richards and wife Elizabeth, Pam Caballero and husband Pat, Polly Lemoine and husband Conville. A private memorial service will be held for friends and family on April 18 in Baton Rouge. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Muscular Dystrophy Association and the American Heart Association.

The next time that I meet you will be at heaven´s door
You´ll be there to meet me and I will cry no more!
I´ll put my arms around you and kiss your handsome face
And then this broken heart of mine will fall back into place!
Fly high my Love until we meet again!

You were one of a kind our friend! Never a dull moment. So many memories we will cherish forever. We can hear your laugh right now and will miss you but never forget you. We love you Doug! So glad we got to spend a week in Florida with you last year. Enjoyed it so much! Keep singing in heaven. I know you will embarrass someone up there (lol) but don't worry about it!

To Gary, Nessie, and all of Doug's family,
I have many fond memories of Doug, particularly when he would caddy for me on the golf course. He also came to my office when he could to catch up. He will be missed but may he rest in peace.

Doug , the crank bait you discovered over forty years ago named ( Richards Red) is as productive today as back then. Every time I catch a bass on it I think if you and as matter of fact it´s currently tied on my rod !
