Eugene Roy Obituary

Eugene Roy, 73, of Lafayette, LA, passed away on September 30, 2023, after a courageous seventeen-year battle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Sue; son, Christopher and his wife, Carie, of Dunedin, FL; daughter, Carolyn and her husband, John, of Highlands Ranch, CO, daughter, Sarah and her husband, Jeff, of Littleton, CO, and son, Jeffrey and his wife, Kendra, of Littleton, CO; eight grandchildren, Emily, Kyla, Ashlyn, Sophia, Henry, Noah, Levi, and Tatum; brothers, Paul and Greg; sisters, Beth Roy and Lucille Engemann; numerous nieces and nephews, and countless friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis Eugene and Lucille Lieux Roy and brother, Edward Roy. Gene was born on March 6, 1950, in New Roads, LA. After his graduation from Catholic of Pointe Coupee, he went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Louisiana State University. Gene was married to Sue Ann Feller in Waukon, IA on September 20, 1975. He was a loving husband, father, and "Papa", committed to instilling values of hard work, honesty, and integrity in his children. His family always felt safe, supported, and loved in his care. Gene was a dedicated and proud employee of Lincoln Electric for most of his career, serving the company as if it were his own. He took great pride in his care and commitment to his customers and valued the relationships he built and nurtured throughout his career. Even after his retirement in 2015, Gene continued to provide support and guidance to his closest customers and colleagues. In retirement, Gene continued to serve others. He was a Pastoral Care Volunteer at Lafayette General Medical Center, offering emotional and spiritual support to patients and their families. He also taught CCD classes at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church, where he was a devoted parishioner. Gene was a man of many talents and interests. He possessed a natural mechanical aptitude, with the ability to build or fix almost anything. He was a skilled electrician, plumber, gunsmith, mechanic, carpenter, chef, and photographer, to name a few. In his younger years, he enjoyed building and flying model airplanes and building golf clubs and other hobby items. Gene was also an avid sportsman. He loved boating and fishing and won several fishing tournaments with his sons throughout the years. He also loved hunting and spending time in the country on his family's land. Above all, he loved sharing his vast knowledge generously and frequently. Whether it was how to wire an electrical switch or the best way to prepare a recipe, he was almost always engaged in teaching others what he knew. The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to friends and family who provided unwavering emotional and spiritual support during Gene's journey. They also extend their thanks to Dr. Michael Cain and the staff at the Ochsner Cancer Center of Acadiana, as well as Dr. Ed Breaux and the team at Southern Urology for their care over the years. A funeral mass in celebration of Gene's life will be held at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Lafayette, LA, on Saturday, October 7, at 10 AM. Following the burial at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Lafayette, LA, a luncheon will be hosted at the St. Elizabeth Seton Church hall.
