Howard Honoré Obituary

Honoré Sr., Howard Anthony "PaPa" A retired Louisiana State Penitentiary corrections officer, he died at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at his home. He was a native of Baton Rouge, a resident of Tunica and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Visiting at Winnfield Funeral Home on Friday, May 5, from 8 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Robert Combs. Interment in Port Hudson National Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Virginia "Jenny" Honoré; two daughters, Dorothy Mae Brown and Victoria Brown; four sons, Troy Boatner Sr. and wife Stephanie, Howard Honoré Jr. and wife Latrice, Tomoda Honoré and wife Ashanta, and Louis Brown; a sister, Marie Honoré; two brothers, Ned Honoré and wife Jessie Mae and Harold Honoré; 15 grandchildren and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, Howard Boatner; father, Willie Honoré; and mother, Bertha Honoré. Pallbearers will be Troy Boatner Sr., Willie Morrison, Ricky Morrison, Dorell Honoré, Derrick Hollic and Harold Honoré. Honorary pallbearers are Howard Honoré Jr., Tomoda Honoré, Louis Brown, Donell Honoré and Kennis Coleman. He loved to attend girls basketball games at Belaire High School, where his son, Troy Boatner Sr., is the head coach. He also supported Latterica, Keyon and Dominique in their respective sports.

Howard "Itchy" was my radio operator in Vietnam. He was a great guy and soldier. I am deeply sorry for your loss. I have been looking for him for a long time and sad to see he has passed. I and the 3rd Platoon of Company D, 3rd Bn, 12th Infantry of the 4th Inf Division are truly grateful for his service and courage.
